Hey guys I'm upgrading my computer and I have a parts list of parts that I'm buying. (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wWV4GX[1] ) There is the list. I have already purchased the RAM and Mobo and The CPU Cooler. My main question is with the Phanteks CPU Cooler fit in my case with that RAM I bought, or is the RAM too high.

PS. Just bought the ram and cooler yesterday, It has already shipped anyway I can make this work?

Solution

With this you probably only would be able to use the two outer slots which would give single channel. Why would you want to use single channel when dual channel is an option?
Removing the coolers/heatsinks from the ram is imo the way to go if i'm right about only being able to use those outer slots. You don't necessarely need the ram coolers, they're also a lot about cool looks rather than cool ram.
I plan on getting the same cooler, and I read that it will accept up to 50mm ram height. Find the height to get an idea. That ram does seem pretty tall tho.....

I also think anything the Nh-D14 has listed as compatible should also be compatible, but unfortunately that ram has an (X) next to it on the list.... If it doesn't fit if you have the tools you could always cut like 4mm of the cooler, about 1-3 fins if you can avoid the heat pipes. Maybe you can return the ram for something more low profile to keep things simple.

Nice cooler.

I think you will be ok if you mount the ram in the more distant slots.
The inner slots require 40mm clearance if you slide the fan up 8mm. Otherwise there is only 32mm clearance.
The heat sinks(winch are pretty, but useless) can usually be removed if need be.
Here is some detail:

I had the same issue with g.skil tridentX 2400 and a noctua NH-D14.
In retrospect I should have bought a low profile 1866 speed kit.
Fast(overclocked) ram can limit the oc you get. That is because the cpu needs to spend some of the wattage budget on the ram controller part.
It would have made no meaningful difference in performance.

So I've been doing some research and I've found out you can moves the fans up and down I think to allow for more room? Also I know there are two fans one on the middle and one on the right blocking the ram, would it work If I were too move the right fan to the left side toward the back of the computer?

Can I move the fan to the opposite side the ram is on? and Why would I remove the big heat-sinks? also I'm not O.C ram just the CPU thats why I got this ram it is 16gb ddr3 2400 good deal on it.

I already bough the stuff any way I can make it work? mount it at a different angel??

The metal radiator is what would overhang the ram, not just the fan. You can use the further away ram slots to make it work, cut the rad (not really suggested but an option) or simply remove the heatsinks from the ram. Other than that you would have to return one of the two parts.

I agree with vic. If you keep your case relatively cool and don't overclock the ram, there shouldn't be a need for the ram's heatsinks. Its unfortunate, but it is your best bet so you can use the proper ram slots.

EDIT: I think you should only need to remove the heatsink closest to the cooler. I'm pretty sure the second ram slot doesn't interfere with the RAD (just the fan which can be raised or put on opposite side) only the one closest to the cpu

So taking off the ram coolers don't you need those to keep the ram from overheating? also is there an easy way to take the coolers off?

For overclocking the ram they are nice to have. If you aren't overclocking it they are mostly a gimmick to make them look better. If its glued on you would need a heat gun (hot hair dryer) to soften the glue and then peel off the spreaders carefully, or pry them apart with a tiny screw driver avoiding the PCB.

This voids your warranty for the ram. If you could return them for new ram that would really be ideal....

Thanks for all the help and suggestion guys but after a 5 hour wait I was able to get with a representative from Newegg and my order was able to be cancelled. I think I'm going to purchase the H100i or some wort of not large cooler.
