At some point im going to go over this frustrating rig and bounce its issues off, Im thinking ram hdd problem , but the ram test fails with new ddr2, (cheap chinese shipped kind that doesnt read right in memtest 95). HDD is noisy so thats an indicator, oddly the mobo reset to the 2011 date while it sat for over a year after the psu died, Thermal take never again. i installed windows on a partition but the effin thing still conks out after booting, freezes up on boot. over clocked for a while then disabled it. HAD 3 os,s but an MBR issue basically rendered all of them to read win 7 after the install, maybe because i accessed the files with my mac and usb sata device? anyway suggestions welcome. oh and bios post screen is off and on, that really made me wonder , but im still thinking ram here unless anyone else has an idea, ram also read oddly in task manager. the bulk of it lists as greyes out and teh available ram is around nearly 4 gb.

phenom 2 920 # 3200 ish win xp pro vista
home prem 64 Win 7 professional 64 8gb ddr2 ocz fatality radeon XFX 4870
1gb biostar 790 gx am3 ready Thermal take purepower 650w

most of the old mb were 500mghz chipset for ram. if you still have the model of the pc use crusial web page under ram for the right ram speed for your rig. some mb will slow the ram down if it faster then it can read some wont. for the os issue as the drive going south i would buy a new drive and install windows 7 clean. if you still have the windows oem code for it download it from microsoft and make a new bootable usb stick.
the other side of the coin is to scap the pc get some money from a recycler and buy or build a newer pc.

yeah thats the question is the old tech worth the cash. if i can get it running cheaply thats one thing , but if not,, obviously thats another.ddr2 is just too expensive to justify it. it being sidelined tech and ddr 3 and 4 being cheaper in many cases. yeah its a conundrum.
