Phenom CPU for my AM2 Mothermoard

I have a Asus M2A VM Motherboard !!! and a AMD x2 5600+ cpu !!!!!!
i was thinking of upgrading my CPU on my current motherboard itself.

Please tell how the Phenom and P2 will perform on my system ??? and which one would be preffered !!! and i have Sapphire 4850 gpu !!!!!

The asus web site should have a CPU support list that will tell you which CPUs your MB will support. First, though, what do you want to speed up? Gaming speed is pretty much dependent on the video card you are using, so I would not expect to see a noticeable improvement on that with a new CPU.

With respect, if it shows up as "unknown processor" indicating the BIOS doesn't know what it is, that means the BIOS won't have the right microcode updates for that CPU, or any special settings for it.
