Hi guys, I've been searching high and low with no answer . I play some CPU intensive games and can't afford an after market cooler yet. Is 72-75 Celsius going to damage the CPU or the socket on my
GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P???
What temp is TOO hot for this thing???

Also I've already re applied arctic silver 5 twice, so please.... I've been told that. I'm just looking for the answer.... Max temp? And too hot??

Higher than the normal accepted temps. 55c to 62C is the accepted norm: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20II%20X4%20970%20Black%20Edition%20-%20HDZ970FBK4DGM%20%28HDZ970FBGMBOX%29.html

But to see just how close you are to the point where the processor will throttle, run AOD and watch thermal margin: http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/technologies-gaming/over-drive
It will show in degrees C just how much room you have left.

I have my PhII X4 965BE @ 4.0GHz and its thermal margin stays in the double digits. That's where I like to keep it, although it is said you can safely use the entire thermal margin. I'm using a Corsair C60 AIO.

Yes, sounds about right. 55-62C is the recommended max. 70C is where the CPU begins to throttle to save itself.
