Photo importing software

ok so i went through and did the clean up on my computer, then after this i was going to upload some pics to my computer through my memory card reader that is built into my computer and had just used it earlier on on the same mem card, but after this clean up itnt reading it or doing anything not asking me to import them like i would like! can u tell me what has happend and how to fix it

I don't remember Windows 95/98/ME ever coming with a utility to copy photos from removable media, so it may have been software that came with your digital camera.
