Can anybody recommend a good free photo viewer?

Windows Vista's photo viewer is REALLY bad. Colors are off, and zooming is terrible.

Is it possible to use Windows XP's photo viewer?

How's Windows 7's photo viewer? Does it have the same problems?

Yeah, Vista dumped the 'Camera and Scanner Wizard' that had been in place since Windows ME and a carryover to XP. We use this free Adobe software to compensate for Vista's poor photo viewer solution. I think Adobe 'stole' it from M$. Or maybe the other way around. At any rate, Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition is free and is a great solution for the Vista 'missing' XP carryover Camera and Scanning Wizard.

I think what OP misses with Vista is the XP Camera and Scanner wizard. When a digital camera is plugged in to XP, the wizard appears and is so easy to organize and work with. Vista's solution is complicated and simply does not work as well period. The Adobe Photoshop Album starter kit software I linked is very similiar to XP's Camera and Scanner wizard. The digital pictures from a camera can be directly input from USB connection into the software and organized from there. Like XP's C & S Wizard. Very similiar.

Photoshop album was a step forward, but 2 steps back.

It loaded pictures with the correct color, but zooming is still as terrible as Vista's.

It takes a while to load the next picture (it is more like the black screen that pisses me off).

Plus, zooming, and scrolling is very inconvenient. I can't use the scroll mouse to zoom, or drag the picture to scroll.

I tried irfanview, and it was good in some ways, but not good in many ways.

I didn't like the way it zooms, and the way you scroll under zoom mode. It doesn't go to the next picture when you delete this one.

Does Windows 7 have this problem?

How does Microsoft be this stupid to put an absolutely crap photo viewer that won't even display correct colors is beyond me.
