Pin-to-pin Ethernet connection over a router?

Is it possible to configure a router to connect two Ethernet cables pin-to-pin no matter what they are transmitting? E.g., if I had a cable that just had signals that aren't compressed data, and wanted to just extend it's length over a router?

What I want to ultimately try is to make a pin-to-pin HDMI to Ethernet adapter and just run it to a different room via my home network. Is this possible considering that running HDMI to a router via Ethernet would just be like gibberish to the router?

Also, are there any more practical solutions for streaming HDMI over a LAN?

They make 2 kinds of adapters. If you have a stupid cable then there are media converters that can carry hdmi over ethernet but I think most want 2 cat6 cables. The other kind is HDMI over IP devices. Most are designed to be carried over a lan switch. I have seen discussion of carrying them over vpn tunnels and such but there seems to be a timing issue if you try to go too far.....ie over to the neighbors house.
