I was on vacation in Michigan the last week and a half. Started out in
Muskegon, went to Durand (west of Flint/Grand Blanc), then on up to
Charlevoix.
The pinball in Muskegon is not too bad in the basement of my parents'
house. Don't know about the rest of Muskegon as we didn't frequent
those places while I was there.
While in Durand, I went for a walk and an ice cream with my kids and
came across a laundromat right there on main street. I figured I would
look as laundromats often have arcade games in them. This one had a
Gottlieb Scuba EM with a painted cabinet and an out of order sign. Too
bad as I would have liked to try it out. The other game was a
Silverball Mania. This had to be the poorest example of this game
ever. The only thing it did was play. No GI, no sound, messed up
displays so you weren't really sure of your score. And it looked
terrible to boot. Pretty dilapidated overall.
While in Charlevoix, we ate at a waterfront restaurant in Ironton
called The Landing, about ten minutes south of Charlevoix on the west
shore. As we were leaving I noticed a PacMan game in a side room so I
checked to see if it was one of the re-issued games. Turned out to be
a nice example original. But what really blew me away was the
beautiful Silverball Mania sitting next to it. This game looked like
it came out of one of our collections. The game had day one mylar and
the playfield was totally shopped out, with recent new rings which were
very clean. The cabinet and backglass were beautiful as well. Looked
like it would be a good player but I didn't have time to play it myself
as they were waiting for me out in the car.
Talk about irony. The only pinball I find on this trip and two of the
three are both Silverball Mania. Even more ironic that the one was so
nice. Does this nice one belong to anyone here on RGP?
