Question Ping double what it normally is in games and ping tests show spikes

Just yesterday I started experiencing double my regular ping in games, most notably league of legends. Where I have had constant 30 ms since I've gotten this internet, I'm now faced with over 70 constant. As well, any ping test I attempt gives me constant spikes into the 100's, far from my regular 20 ms to the Toronto server. I've tried the ping -n 50 x.x.x.x thing for cmd and I get anywhere between 1 - 15 ms for most of the pings with a minimum of 1ms, max of 86ms and an average of 7ms. Called my ISP to no avail as they had a representative that said they wouldn't do anything about latency. Any help is appreciated.

Note: CAT 6 ethernet connection plugged into a Gigabyte motherboard although the tests give me the same result on Wifi and ethernet tested on a laptop.

You always want to test on ethernet just so you can be sure your results are not getting contaminated by random wifi spikes.

Note what a game calls "ping" is not always a actual ICMP type ping command. It can be influenced by other processes in the game client.

I am unclear what ip you ping when you ping 50.x.x.x You want to run tracert to the game server node. You then start ping command starting at hop 1 (this is your router and never should show a issue) and continue until you find the delays.

In most cases random delays is a result of a overload condition where data is being held in a buffer because there is too much traffic to send. Be very sure you are not over utilizing you internet connection. The spikes will commonly be on hop 2 for this type of problem.

Now if your problem is not the random spikes but the fact that the latency is now 70 and it was 30 that maybe due to some change in your ISP network or another ISP. The data could be taking a different path than it used to. Maybe some fiber got cut or they rebalanced due to capacity, Not much you can do about this. It should have no impact on your game. The servers can adjust for this. If it went to say 200ms then you might have a issue but non shooter type game like lol can tolerate high latency much better than say call of duty.
