Alright so this problem seems to be occurring for well over 3 years now and it's driving me insane, basically my ping will be completely fine if i'm home alone but when someone in the family comes home and their device connects to the WiFi my ping will go extremely high, normally sits around 1000-2000 but has in the past reached up to 40,000. Sometimes it'll just spike for like 10 seconds sometimes it could last for a whole hour straight but tends to only occur when someone either gets home and connects or is using their phone for social media, youtube, etc. During late at night when everyone else is asleep and not using their devices the internet is mostly fine. My parents have called the ISP which they came and did something which I have no idea what but seemed to fix it for like 2 days then went back to the normal routine of spiking so I'm clueless as to what I need to do to fix the problem. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Solution
1. Do you have the password to access the menus in the router ?
2. Telstra is your ISP, goto your router flip it upside down and read the make and model on the label
3. if your 8 meters, you could get a 30ft cat5/6 cable and run it along the baseboard and plug your pc directly in to see if it makes a difference, then decide if your usb dongle is at fault

Are you hard wired or wifi connected? Close or far from the router? Have you analyzed the wifi signals to find a non-congested channel to use?
What type of internet service (and rated speeds) does your service offer?
What models of wifi cards, routers/bridges/switches are being used? Any QoS solutions in place?
Have you tried re-installing the network drivers on your pc? On other's Pc's/devices?
If connected by wire, have you tried a different wire?

Bottom line, we need a lot of technical specs of the network and devices to problem solve anything for you.

Alright so I'm WiFi connected and roughly 8 meters from the router, I have very little knowledge in this area so I have no idea how to find a non-congested channel and so forth but I will try looking into that.
I live in Australia so just like most the population I'm with Telstra ADSL2+ I believe, I ran a couple of tests and were roughly around 6Mbps download and 0.4Mbps upload, Telstra ADSL2+ advertises up to 20Mbps download and up to 1Mbps upload.
My computer connects to the router using a Netgear A6200 Wifi usb adapter not sure about any bridges or switches.
Regarding QoS I researched online and found out that telstra routers do not support any QoS settings but apparently others with Telstra seem to be having a problem with high pings when more than one user is connected so it is unfortunate that there are no QoS settings because it seems that would likely fix the problem. However I am curious how this problem could only happen to only a few people as I know my mate who I do a lot of gaming with uses Telstra's ADSL2+ but he experiences no crazy lag with more than one user?
I have also not tried re-installing any network drivers on my pc or any other devices yet.
