Ping to my router (ASUS RT-AC66U) spikes ever few seconds

Setup: I have an Alienware m14xr2 laptop PC. My router is an ASUS RT-AC-66U, hooked up to a Arris TM822 modem (though that really isn't a part of the problem.) I am connected to the router via wireless. I have split my wireless into two different networks, one that runs 2.4GHz and the other that runs 5.0GHz.

Problem: When Pinging my router, I get <10ms ping times for about 10 seconds, then I will get <300ms for one ping, down to >100ms, up to <300ms, back down to <100, and so on for several seconds, then ping returns to <10ms. The pattern is very specific, it happens like that every time.

Solutions I have tried: Restarting my computer (duh) had no effect on the ping. I changed my connection from 2.4GHz to 5.0GHz. I still had the issue. Moving around the house once again changed nothing. I tried another computer in the house, and found no major ping spiking. Updating my network drivers had no effect, I still get the ping spikes. Wiring my laptop to the router using an ethernet cord fixed the issue entirely, however is not an option for me.

Your machine wouldn't by chance have killer networks wireless card in it. The killer network drivers tend to cause more troubles than they solve. They think they can accelerate certain classes of traffic but do not always figure it out correctly.

Some of their drivers are pretty stable but finding them seems to be the questions everyone is asking.

I would look for a new wireless driver in worst case you could replace the card with a more standard intel card.

Now if it is only the ping doing this and it does not actually impact your usage I would ignore it. The killer drivers are extremely hard to troubleshoot because they delay even ping and traceroute commands at times.

Why yes I do have a Killer wireless network card. A An N-1202 to be exact. I have had other issues with this computer's wireless and I can 100% agree about this wireless card causing more issues than it's worth.
Secondly the ping is making some online games nigh unplayable, so it's not an issue I can really ignore. Are there any specific driver versions I can look for or if not how do I search for a good one?

I see you mean a ping in a game, I though you meant a real ping command.

There are also lots of strange setting in the killer network drivers. Last time I had one I ended up turning off everything I could find before I put a different board in.

You will find massive amounts of post about killer network cards both wireless and wired causing issues for people.

What some people do it try to load the chipset vendor drivers. The FCC licensing stuff says the chip your board uses is Atheros AR9462

I did run the real ping command (I ran cmd and pinged my router) after noticing ping lag in game, 99% of the lag was occurring between the laptop and the router.
I suppose I will have to take a look at some other posts about my wireless card then.

I *might* have fixed the issue. I repaired my .NET framework, it was already updated to the most recent version so I simply re-installed it. Ping hasn't been an issue for most of three days now (since I re-installed.) I will post again if I start to have issues again though.
