Question Ping when others download

Hello, im trying to figure out if there is a way to limit a channel of my internet. So, I made the 5G connection mine, and the rest of my family use the 2.4, but when they download stuff it still affects me greatly, throwing me to 200 + ping. Which is UNPLAYABLE for online gaming. So, my question is, how do i make their 2.4g not affect my 5g connection?

The problem is not which radio band is being used it is how much of your total internet is being used. I am assuming that you do not have a huge internet connection because then you have some other issue.

What you want to do is use QoS to fix this. Now QoS is not some magic thing that creates more bandwidth. Someone is not going to get the bandwidth they need/want. So before you make you stuff run good and someone else run poorly be sure you have a agreement to do this.

QoS can be very tricky to get to work on a very small connection because of the way the rates are calculated. It also is not needed on very large connections because you should not be over using say a 300mbps internet connection.

Some router have the ability to set a certain IP to have a minimum and maximum bandwidth. This will mostly work but you have to pick the numbers carefully.

Read the QoS section of your manual and see what options you have. Some have better than others. Key though is it must be able to limit download and not just upload rates.

Right now im getting about 75 down and 12 up. Is that gonna change what I should do?
