I'm looking for a new DVD-CD combo I just got a new Plextor 16x cd-rw and my old pioneer slot 24x 1xdvd will not cut it anymore, cant copy cd-cd because its not fast enogh to support my plextor with info. So what are your suggestions for a fast cd-rom with dvd support, i dont care how fast the DVD part is, ive looked around and saw pioneer with a 16x dvd 40x cd the (DVD-106S) and saw the Toshiba 16x 48x cd (SD-M1502) wich is the better brand Toshiba good or should i stick with the pioneer i like the trayless part of it and have never had a problem with my current one..

thanks..

I vote for the Pioneer, I've had better luck with them. They seem to last longer than the Toshiba's ... I rarely have to replace a Pioneer. And mine works really well with the Plextor. This is the second time I've matched up the two components on my home system ... couldn't be happier.

I see you have the 16x plextor have you ever copied from cd-cd at 16x or even 12x? had any problems?

I got a 16x Pioneer 116 (tray load). Works great and fast.
only gripe-can get a little loud, but not too loud that it bothers when watching a movie.

No problems with copying CD's at all. Of course, because of the IDE limitations, whenever I use Nero 5.5 to copy a CD, I get a message that recommends that the two drives be on separate channels. Now that would be fine, but I don't want to liimit the hard drive speed by setting up the Pioneer as a slave on the Primary IDE channel.

However ... I have not encountered any errors or buffer-underruns as a result of having both drives on the same cable ... and the burn runs at full speed (16x).

I am currently listening to an audio CD that I burned just a few minutes ago. The CD was a retail version of Diamond Rio's "Unbelievable", and totaled 356MB. The burn and the TOC took 3:16. The CD sounds great. No skips, no clicks, no jitter. I'd notice, too ... because I was a professional musician and sound tech for twenty-five years and my ear is pretty good. Or so I've been told. I'm still in demand for "washing" out stage setups. Of course, everyone could be deaf. <GRIN>

Note: The media was bought in bulk, Memorex 16x multi-speed. But I've also had good luck copying at 16x, even with 12x media. BURN-Proof is really good stuff!

Look. If you want a good DVD for DVDs and burning, too, you have to consider two things:
1st. DAE = audio extraction for burning Audio cds. You see, if you get a DVD which has less than 16x DAE, then you wont be able to write at 16 speed, no matter if your Plextor supports this speed. 115 and 105 Pioneer had this problem. It could only reach 12-13x DAE. Now the new ones 116 and 106 do reach 16.5 DAE. Thsi has been reported and I can reassure you so, because I have it - after a big survey I did.
2nd: Data write speed. Not much to say. Pioneer dvds are quite good on this. As like every new cd or dvd - rom

For Toshiba... don't know much
