Hello,

my Gigabyte GTX 760 OC Windforce have been reaching 82c when under load, which got me worried. i decided to install a spare fan somewhere to provide heat relief to GPU exclusively, but can decide where to place it for best effect.

Here are some side shots of the case:

the gpu sits right in between the 2 side vents shown in the case 'door', so i thought placing intake fan on bottom slot would make a difference. it did not however. there was maybe 1c difference. the GPU is the one that blows hot air back into the case, so im thinking airflow from side fan gets cancelled by gpu hot air.

any ideas where best it would be placed?

thanks

Solution
Just make sure you have more intake fans than exhaust fans to create positive air flow and to prevent dust entering the case. If you do that and still have problems, then it isn't in the airflow. Having positive airflow means your case is getting cooled well. The other factor to consider is your cable management. For example it doesn't matter how many fans you have if you have a bunch of cables in the middle of your case blocking the airflow.

so should i keep the intake slot at bottom slot?

also just dismantled gpu and cleaned the dust, so thats no issue. and cables seems to not get in way much.

Place the fan in the least air blocking area. If your front panel already has max amount of fans and so does the top of your case, then the only place left is bottom because the back is usually used for exhaust fans.

right now i only have 1 other fan that is connected to closed loop water cpu cooler. front and top both r free, but not sure air would reach gpu from all the way there

It will reach the GPU and it's also a better place to place it in the front because there is much more room for it to gather air. Also if your fan isn't pressure optimized it will be very hard for it to gather air if you place it on the bottom because there's so little room underneath the case. Your best best is to get a couple more fans. Even if they are cheap and not so good they will be better than nothing ;p You can get fans for something like 2$ each these days.
