I have a Lenovo G585 laptop that was bought in 2012. It still works okay, but I'm planning to strip it clean and start from scratch. I want to upgrade the graphics card, but I don't know what with and where to start.

Specs are
Processor: AMD E-300 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.30 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
64-bit OS

I've got my eye on the Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 but I'm not sure if compatibility would be an issue here. Is it possible to upgrade my graphics card and if so, what card should I get that will support games like League of Legends, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, Left4Dead 2, Bioshock Infinite, among others?

sadly, one cannot do such a thing. your motherboard will not support it, if it does then your battery wont, and even if that works too, which it is unlikely to, then you will have to cool it which is impossible to do in a laptop that does not have a cooling system built in already. Just save up and buy a better lap top down the road, it is the only option that is feasible.
