Playback becomes slow and sound crackles while opening Chrome

Whenever I'm watching a video on VLC or MPC-HC and open or browse Chrome at the same time, the video becomes slow and the sound crackles and pops. I noticed that Chrome takes up 100% of the CPU in order to open up. Is that it?

What causes Chrome to use up 100% of the CPU? Is there a solution to this?

I've also noticed that within the first few minutes of a reboot the problem doesn't show.

there can either be a malware on chrome as an addon or you can try this page https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/113910?hl=en

Ok, I've found a thread saying you should decrease hardware acceleration in these cases and that's what did it for me. The thing is I had to do it in safe mode because the nVidia drivers won't let me do it in normal Windows 7.

No. About an hour later the problem came back:-(
