Before you ask, yes, I've searched and I've not quite found a situation similar to mine.
As is always the case in these threads the user, me, inserts a disc, the drive grinds, and then an error message appears on the screen stating that the disc is unrecognizable and cannot be read.
My situation, however, I think, is unique. I've not played my PS5 for several months. It was working fine then. I turned it on last night, signed in like three times before it actually kept, and inserted a new disc. The system requires an update. The controller then requires an update. Then the disc being installed requires an update. After all of these updates, I get the message that the disc cannot be read. I thought it might be the new game, so I put the old one back in that had been sitting in the console for months. It can no longer be read.
At this point, I started scouring Reddit, Google, and YouTube for fixes. I cleaned the discs. I booted up in safe mode and reset the cache, restored the default settings, rebuilt the database, and eventually reset the system. None of these worked. However, I can throw an old DVD movie into the system and it works perfectly fine.
I have no idea what else to do. Any suggestions?
