Playstation connection error

I used wired modem directly to my ps3 without any router. I manually entered the IP Address and all. Then ps3 successfully got the IP Address but failed to connect to internet. ps3 shows error massage,- 'A connection error has occured (80028EA8)'. Don't know what it means & how to fix it, please help.

Check whether the PlayStation Network is currently on.
If the PlayStation Network is on, you may need to check your network to make sure all information is entered correctly in the PlayStation 3 network set up.
Check with whoever maintains your Internet service for details on connecting to their service.
In many cases you will need to use the Internet Browser to log in to the Internet service.

Why are you manually assigning an address? Your ISP should assign you an address. Set the PS3 to use DHCP instead.
