Please advice on CORSAIR Vengeance 12GB vs CORSAIR DOMINATOR 12GB

Hi all,

I am in the process of building a high performance PC for multi-tasking and application intensive purposes. For which i am planning to install 3x4Gb = 12GB ram.
I have shortlisted two memory modules for this purpose.

The specs on both look the same.

Cas Latency: 9
Voltage: 1.5V
Multi-channel Kit: Triple Channel Kit
Timing: 9-9-9-24
Buffered/Registered: Unbuffered
Lifetime limited

But there is quite a bit of price difference on both the memory modules. My inclination is towards Corsair Vengence (the first one), as it is costing me around 169 dollars.
But somewhere i read that the IC on dominator is a little bit better.
Is that true...?? and if it is.. how much and what difference is it going to make!??

Another problem i am facing with these memory modules is that.. I was planning to install a Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler, and Vengance has a problem with Noctua, where as Dominator needs to be physically modified to be installed along with that CPU cooler.
Either i can change my opinion for the CPU cooler and go for an equally good or better cpu cooler.. hence advice needed on both

Is dominator superior as compared to vengance in terms of quality and performance?
Any other better CPU cooler other than Noctua??

Hi.

You don't need 12GB unless that you use many, MANY adobe applications at the same time. Now for a little more money that Vengeance kit but for less money that Domintaro, you can get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231405 that comes with much better specs.

Regarding the cooler, the Silver Arrow or Archon performs very good and pretty similar to NH-D14. Keep in mind that you can have problem installing those coolers with a high profile RA, more if this comes with RAM fan cooler.

Thanks saint.. Silver arrow looks like a promising product. But i think the fans on that cooler will still interfere with a memory module that has a higher heatsink spreader.

This is weird, i never thought that some better performing CPU coolers could interfere with other components of inside the computer.

Regarding 12GB, one of the main reasons is i would be installing VMWare Workstation and upon that RedHat Linux thus using it as a Sandbox for practicing on Oracle Databases and other heavy intensive applications.
I am into IT, and do a lot of self-study, also coming months, i am planning to connect a RACK Storage on SAN or NAS. Also plan to host my Home Automation software. So yes will be couple of things going on this. Maybe in the future i can add another 12Gb on the remaining 3 slots and have 24gb running if the cost of the modules go down to 100-120 dollars.

With regards to the G.Skill memory module you posted.. the speed is slower as compared to Corsiar Vengance. Gskill is on 1333 and Corsiar vengence has 1600 Mhz. Although the cas and T1 timings are better on Gskil as compared to vengence.. but i really dont know what predominantly affects the performance of the memory when compared to speed or cas and timings!? Please advice.

Saint, i have still not settled on a Mobo, maybe P6X58D-E or P6X58D (but not rampage III extreme, as it is more effective for gaming intensive cpu's, i guess ).
I need a Mobo, that has good networking, USB 3.0, more sata and PCIE connections, perfect for multimedia intensive purposes. Any recommendations.
Also regarding RACK + SAN is there a definative thread or section or Tomshardware??

If ya avoid RAM with tall heat sinks (and by that I mean taller than 40mm) ya should have no problem. RAM heat sinks actually served a purpose "back in the day" but, as you can see by reading some THG articles, with few exceptions (i.e. Corsair Ascent Liquid coolers) , those fancy looking heat sinks don't do a darn thing.

This memory will give ya no issues w/ CPU coolers....I have done about 9 builds with them and no interference issues yet

EVGA?? Wow now that is something completely new to me!!? never heard any praises for that MOBO!!
Does EVGA only support EVGA GPU's or even ati's?
what abt P6X58D?

EVGA only use Intel CPUs, and support any GPU manufacturer. The P6X58D is a very good mobo, but a little expensive for this days, the P6X58D-E can give you the same performance at less price.
