Hello, I'm planning on building my next PC. What do you think of this configuration? My main application is video editing. I'm having a lot of difficulty choosing the motherboard. Any better suggestions? Thanks!

heya david;

The p4c800 series which is the i875 chipset series motherboard doesnt use an LGA 775 socket it uses a 478-pin instead, being that you missed that little detail i dont suggest you buy a LGA775 core, it takes an expert to install, and you are obviously not an expert. I suggest a Abit IS7 with a p4c 3.2Ghz Northwood instead. However if you insist on going with LGA 775 you better get some experiance before you try installing one because it is very easy to damage the LGA775 socket.

<Xeen> lol this dude on the forums asked to review his rig right, he speced out a asus P4C800-e Deluxe, to use with a LGA775 P4, i about died laughing
<Ned_Flanders> ...it is....?
<Xeen> i was like wtf
<Ned_Flanders> ...yes
<Ned_Flanders> on THG?
<Ned_Flanders> what username?
<Xeen> i told him he better not attempt an install of an LGA775 processor if you dont even know that you need a LGA775 socket board
<Xeen> haha
<Xeen> its in the motherboard section

Thanks XeenRecoil,
Yes, I missed that little detail. My plan was to go with the 478 socket, not the LGA775. I briefly read some user comments on the Abit IS7 and most people seem to really like it, except for the sound. Maybe that's resolved by now. Either way I was planning to add a sound card anyway.

yo chk the rig of <A HREF="http://www.punchbaby.com/media/gitfakt/clips/funny/donkey.mpg" target="_new">this a$$</A>, can it fit the guy ????

heya David;

Yeah ive got the Abit IS7 revision 2, and if there was ever a sound issue it seems to be resolved now i have encountered no problems with it, it is very crisp and clear.

OK guys, glad I was able to make your day. Yes I know the difference between a 478 and a 775 socket, but I just didn't catch it when I picked the CPU. I guess that's why I posted in this forum, so you guys can give me a sanity check. Any other useful comments?

Hi David, we was just having a joke. Don't worry about it, you should of seen the crap I got into by posting a Poll not so long back :lol:

Looks like the P4 3.2Ghz 1MB Cache for Socket 478 is becoming hard to find. Newegg doesn't show it. Monarch doesn't have any and doesn't show an ETA. I wonder if Intel is discontinuing it?
How difficult is it to install into the 775 socket? Yes I'm technical but no I don't do this sort of thing everyday. Thanks again.

OK, but I was really hoping to get the Prescott for the large 1MB cache. A computer integrator told me the 775 is replacing the 478. Is that true?

Prescotts 478 are widely available, along with 775.
Yes, the 775 is replacing 478, so True...

Check <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/searchproduct.asp" target="_new">here</A> (enter "3.2* pentium 512" in the search field and limit the prices to 200 to 260). You don't want the one with the 1MB of cache...it's slower and hotter.

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.

I owned the P4C800-E Deluxe, you can read my review at Sysopt. If you're going S478 you'd be better off saving money with the IS7.

Putting a socket T chip in place is not that difficult. It cant be, it takes an idiot to buy one.
You can get several months of reasonable use out of one, if you use a btx case, and a zalman or better hsf.
