I just finished putting this together. After a few days of intense research and analysis, I think going AMD / Radeon is just the play price-wise. I could wait for the 4080 super etc but I just am seeing over and over the 7950x3d / 7900xtx combo outperforming the 14900k / 4080 combo in games and video editing etc. which is what I mostly do. I was contemplating going ALL out and getting the 4090 but I just can't swallow the current price / $ in comparison to the 7900xtx /7950x3d combo from what I am seeing in all of my research and as much as I would love to just blow the money I just think it would be a poor use of hard earned cash at that point. I play a lot of Escape From Tarkov and I do a lot of 4K video editing and photo editing. Any last-minute thoughts or advice would be very welcome :) Or build critiques! Thank you!!

Which is more important between the 2?
IMO, the X3D Ryzen 9 parts are not worth it over their originals. They don't clock as high, thus lower performance in anything that doesn't take advantage of the cache. Plus, every once in a while, driver that does the core scheduling will mistakenly assign the CCX with the slower cores to higher priority tasks, which in either case, the originals still have their higher clocks to contend with.

That's about the only thing that raised an eyebrow. Nothing looks alarming.

uhhh the X3D's out perform the originals, especially in games by quite a large margin am I wrong?

I'm not sure 7200 is fast enough to overcome the negatives of running a 2:1 ratio for the DRAM across the board. It will depend on whether the software you're using is more latency or bandwidth dependent. There hasn't been much of any proper benchmarking down with Zen 4 over 6000/6200.

Generally speaking low latency 6000 has been the way to go, but with the 1.0.0.7c AGESA update Zen 4 can run up to 6400 in 1:1. Something 6000-6400 with low latencies (no higher than CL32 for primary) should be good picks.

The primary issue with the 7950X3D is that it doesn't always assign tasks to the right CCD.

1. do you think this build is the play for the price?
2. if so what ram would you recommend for a sort of "dream" build

I think it's a pretty good build overall. If the video editing software you use benefits from the extra cores then the 7950X3D is the way to go. In a perfect world it would always be the best choice, but there being two different CCDs is a disadvantage. Basically it won't be quite as good as a 7800X3D at gaming (it will be better at production) or as good as 7950X at production (it will be better at gaming). If the video editing software doesn't benefit from additional cores then it might be worth considering the 7800X3D.

For AMD I would probably get one of the G.Skill 2x24GB 6400 CL32 kits personally. You could always try your luck with some really high speed kits 7800+, but with what I know as of now it's not something I'd be interested in testing myself.

Love this so I do 4k video editing with a lot of warp stabilization for B-Roll in Premiere Pro if that helps?

And the last question would be is there a better build for the money for my use case?

I don't know enough about video production software to really say here.

I don't think you're going to do better than this without spending a lot more money and then time optimizing. Personally speaking I usually go Intel, but I don't think their options are really good in this space right now.

Nothing really stands out, I'd replace that water cooler with a thermalright peerless assassin 120 se. AIO water coolers tend to have issues after a few years, fluid evaporates off, pumps die, fins gunk up if they used bad fluid. You don't have those issues with a decent air cooler, and it's cheap, incredibly cheap for the performance you get. Also you don't have to buy a full boxed copy of windows 11, I've used vip-scdkeys for years for windows and office keys and never had an issue with any of them. I just recently bought and used 10 of them for the builds I put together for the holidays every year.

So no need for liquid cooling? Just grab that and donezo?

In your opinion is there any better build for the money right now than this? / would you agree with what the other guy said above about going for 6400mhz 32cl over the 7200 I have in pcpartpicker?

If your priority is video editing, the 14900k with Intel quick sync is the better choice. the same goes for CUDA accelerated operations in video editing.

I will link this for your reference:

if you are fixed on 7950X3D, you would have to manually park the X3D cores or the CCD for game apps in AMD Ryzen master software. Also, using the offset mounts is highly recommended for Ryzen 9 :

https://www.thermal-grizzly.com/en/adapter-offset-mounting-kit/s-tg-ad-am5-mk

Thoughts on your AM5 build:

The Galahad performs better than the Arctic Freezer II.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/P4BzK8/lian-li-galahad-ii-trinity-891-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-ga2t36b

you dont need a X670 board unless you want specific IO that is not available in B650 or B650E

Check out this board and see if you lack any IO that you need:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Tz...ifi-atx-am5-motherboard-b650e-pg-riptide-wifi

Like others have said, 7200mhz does not net you that much gains. You might instead face ram compatibility issues. you might want to go for 64gb for your video editing tasks instead?

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/WT...2-gb-ddr5-6000-cl30-memory-cmh64gx5m2b6000c30

the crucial T500 is a bang for buck model and performs better than the 980 pro

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/M8...e-40-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-ct2000t500ssd8

Case is again a personal preference, but 200+ for a case is questionable

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/tXhv6h/phanteks-nv5-atx-mid-tower-case-ph-nv523tg_dbk01

But something you might be interested in like for the 3 side fans:

I would recommend this PSU model instead:

Solid response. What is CUDA? Honestly I kinda just live under a rock until it’s time to upgrade I’m still using an i5-9600k and a 2080 right now and “just getting through” playing tarkov and my video editing tasks lol it’s like 50-70fps in tarkov arena and a fairly slow workflow with some lock ups in premiere (worked amazingly well when I first got it though 😂)

Would you be willing to put a sort of dream build together for me on pcpartpicker that you’d recommend for my use case? Taking Tarkov into consideration as well? I’d also be down to try out some solid campaign games this year and maybe move away from some of the competitive online stuff. But I do always play Tarkov on wipe and it would be nice to get 144fps at 1440p finally lol. I’ve seen some YouTube videos on a guy with a 7800x3d and a 7900xtx getting around 160fps in arena so that’s why I figured I’d save a few bucks and go the and / Radeon route but I’m definitely open minded. I just want to finally do a dream build or close to it and not just go middle of the road like I did on my first build. But again I’m not super knowledgeable so I appreciate all of the help.

I am not a content creator so i dont know much about the in depth options an features that take advantage of GPUs in premier pro. Just as an overview, these tasks benefit from GPU acceleration:

https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/premiere-elements/using/gpu-acceleration.html

And Nvidia vs AMD cards performance:

You might have those settings enabled and might have been using it with your 2080.

Regarding an Intel build, @Why_Me gave a great recommendation. Just swap the SSD and PSU option to the one i linked above. Just cuz they are more bang for buck.

Might be better to wait till Mid jan or Jan end to hear about the 4080 super and its performance before you pull the trigger.

I guess generally speaking if I could grab a 4080 super on pre order I could just get a 14900k and a 4080 super (at msrp) and pretty much hit the samy $3,000 threshold right? What would be the chances I could get a 4080 super at msrp do you think?

Thats assuming the 4080 super launches for 1200 USD.

Swapping the CPU and mobo for 14900k and a Z790 mobo like the MSI Z790 Pro A would bring the total to 2880 USD for the above build. And i have not included Win 11 in the list. So you decide...

Regarding getting the 4080 super at MSRP: the GPU announcement would be on Jan 9th i think. After the announcement, retailers would have the pre order links up and running. Check everyday and register yourself and hope for the best 🤞

The difference between the 14700K and 14900K is slim at best not to mention the 14700K is easier to tame in regards to thermals.

Tarkov with run great with an i7 and the i7 is a solid cpu in regards to video editing.
I mean I don't mind paying a little more for my "dream" build I just don't know if I want to pay out the $4k price tag for the 4090 aswell. So I am basically trying to find the next best option for around $3,000 or maybe a touch over is fine tbh. Do you think I am just going to have a better time with a 4080 and a 14900k?
Another option to look at.

Might be better to wait till Mid jan or Jan end to hear about the 4080 super and its performance before you pull the trigger.

At that point would I just go with this? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mFNTjH and do you recommend windows 11 home or pro?

The list looks good!

You would need the Pro version only if you want the virtualization features and encryption. For gaming and content creation, the home edition would do.

But i would ask you to wait till the 4080 super and decide on this. you might even have price cuts on the vanilla 4080.
