Please help - flaky connections

I am experiencing a lot of problems with connectivity on my terminal server
on a w2k3 machine.

When users are connected through a LAN, it works like a charms. But, users
are connected from outside, we are getting really flaky connections.
contacts freeze-ups and/or disconnects.

First, I thought that there was networking problems with one of our remote
locations (our finance dept works from a different location and the
accounting soft is running on the TS machine). Now, I have noticed that its
not limited to one location, it could be from various locations. From home
also, I get freeze-ups often.

The TS box is behind a firewall (CISCO 8000 series router), with a port open
to it. At home, for example, I have a LinkSys rtr. I am sure CISCO is a very
solid product and it would be the cause of the problem (I may be wrong).

I also found an article on the net

luck!

On your cisco router, check the setting on the tcp/ip stack, and make sure
it's configured for "fair queueing"
(by default this is disable, to give preference to larger packages)

If the tuning article from serverbeer does not help you, all you are left
with, is try to manipulate the
MTU stack on your server a bit, to make it more favourable to the router.

HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\tcpip\parameters\interfaces\"ID for
Adapter"

Add a dword value MTU with a value of 1492 decimal

(Default MTU for ethernet = 1500, for DSL = 1492, dial-up = 576)

If however you have an experienced network administrator, have hin have a
look, as perhaps he can tell why
the sessions are being dropped.
