Hello,
am not able to install display driver of nvidia 9400gt... the error says at time of installing in windows 7 that- The nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware... setup will now exit....
i want to know what else should i do? and why am i being shown this error..

Before anything else, just make sure that you have the latest driver for your version of Windows 7 downloaded from the nvidia.com website. Be careful that you get either the 32 or 64 bit version to match your operating system.

i have downloaded the latest version but it is still saying the same error.

Are you sure you are using the correct version? As in you arn't trying to run x64 drives on a 32 bit OS....
