Here is the situation:
My current gaming rig is this:
AMD FX 8350 + MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard
212 Hyper Evo
8 GB of DDR3 Ram
480 GB SSD
ASUS GTX 1060 6gb
Corsair CMX 600 Watt
I hate my cpu! It basically doubles as a room heater. When I play something like Warhammer Total War, the back of the case blows out air that feels like it could burn you. The case (100R Silent Corsair) gets so hot I think I can make eggs on it.
To add insult to injury, I made an aggressive fan curve in my bios to help cool it and the EVO works at 100% when I game and the FX is at stock...
You get the point.
Given that I have a good GPU and a good SSD, I don't want to get an brand new system. I mean I would love to get a new system but explaining to my wife why I have to drop over 1k (actually close to 2k for the coffee lake I wanted) on a new PC that will basically do the same thing that my old one does (run games) is an argument I have no chance of winning.
So I have a budget of $500 Canadian max to buy Mobo, CPU, ram (if I go for new stuff with DDR4) and a CPU cooler. I don't want to re-use the EVO because I am planning to sell it plus the mobo and CPU for like $100-150 CAD. I assume I will keep this build for about 2 years and then probably upgrade to Zen 2 or Icelake later on.
My current pick is: (all parts are available at my local Canada Computers and include tax)
Ryzen 1600 = $258.77 CAD
GIGABYTE GA-AB350-Gaming = $90.40 - $20 MIR = $70.40 CAD
G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz CL15 = $175.15 CAD
The total comes out to $504.32
From the looks of it, I can probably do better with the Ram price. But I left this one in because when I looked at the memory QVL for that mobo, I could not find ANY of their listed ram anywhere in Canada. (I only checked ram 2666 and higher) I have no idea if that ram I chose will run at 3000 Mhz on that Mobo.
I know that Mobo is not super high quality but it is really cheap.
Given all this info, should I skip the 1600, save $113 and get the Ryzen 1200? this will reduce the total cost of my upgrade quite a bit. Will it peform much worse with my GTX 1060?
can anyone find a better upgrade for a $500 CAD?
Thank you in advance!
