Ok guys here is the low down I have a Q6600 stepping: B revision: GO and I want to overclock it to 3.0Ghz or 3.2Ghz if possible.

Below are my system specs.

CASE: Antec Three Hundred Gaming Case

CPU FAN: ThermalTake Spin Q CPU Cooler

CPU: Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz

GPU: EVGA GTX 260

MOTHERBOARD: MSI P7N SLI-FI 750i

RAM: NVIDIA SLI OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 clocked at 800Mhz (2GB each and there are 4 sticks)

POWERSUPPLY: 850 Watt Thermaltake Key 3 Spirit

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

I have applied thermal paste to the CPU before putting the CPU Fan on. My CPU V-Core voltage is at stock and my bios version is American Megatrends version 2.1, I dont know if that helps but there you go.

My CPU core temps at idle are:

46
45
42
43

My CPU core temps at load are:

57
51
46
48

My CPU temp at idle are:

27-36

My CPU temps at load are:

36-42

So if you could help me I would greatly appreciate it because as you can probably tell I am a noob to this overclocking stuff and just wanted some people with experience to help me out.

I would first try and re seat your heat sink with some arctic silver (too much is just at bad as not enough) and make sure your cpu fan is at 100%. that may help cool off your one hot core.

after that raise fsb as high as you can staying prime stable (if you want, just personal preference).
if needed, raise voltage in small increments to stableize a frequency, just watch temps and try and stay below 65ish ideally (again personal preference, but below 65 is a resonable goal)

My G0 Q6600 (VID 1.2625 volts) runs at 3.0 GHz. with nothing but an FSB increase. 3.3 GHz. was pretty easy. 3.6 GHz took some work and a good cooler.

A guide for your specific motherboard would be useful. Google something like "750i overclock".
