Please Help missing DLL

I am running windows 10 home and recently saw that vss writer was running constantly and through my searching i couldn't find any associated program that would need Microsoft sql server to be running. I deleted Microsoft sql server and Microsoft sql server compact edition out of my program files. BAD IDEA!

Now i keep getting errors for everything about MSI.DLL because apparently it was being shared to the rest of my computer from microsoft sql server. I have tried sfc/ scan now .. i have tried dism. I have tried to reinstall a redistribution package c++ but it just failed like everything else.

I have also tried re-registering it but just got error "modules msi.dll was loaded but the entry point dllinstall was not found"

if anyone can help me figure this out besides just reformatting and reinstalling windows that would be great!

i am wondering if i can just copy paste microsft sql server from my laptop over to my computer and will it replace everything and work? Because currently i cannot even install a graphics driver update because of the missing MSI.DLL

MSI.dll is used in conjunction to installer packages mostly for software installation on your system Sublime.
Why don`t you simply use backup and restore of windows to get all of the files back you deleted, and also fix the windows registry if it`s causing the problem, plus the Msi. dll file ?

That`s the whole point of windows having backup and restore points and making a restore point before each installation of new software, or a driver update to windows Os.

I just cannot figure how so many people simply forget about how useful system restore points are and the reason they exist for such a situation that you are in now Sublime.

Use system restore of windows.
Your sat there thinking right now of course why didn`t I think of doing that
how simple was that to do to get things working right again.
And how obvious the answer is.

You are correct, I should have been running that but apparently system protection was turned off and i never configured it because I did not think ahead. That would have been a quick easy fix. Since I was not smart and did not think of it, do you know anything that I can do from this point. I have already tried doing a reinstall of windows but keep all files and folders and that failed, straight off the windows 10 usb. So it seems my problems might be running deeper then just a .dll

Ok, i got windows 10 to install fresh over itself and everythign seems to be working now. I didn't know you had to do it from within windows 10 itself in order for the repair to work. I was trying to do it off the usb drive on startup. For future reference i turned on system protection and made a restore point for drive C: Is that all i need to do?

Yes and keep restore on... and every so often when you know everything is working 100% create a new restore point. I usually delete the old restore points beforehand but that is due to limited SSD space but if you have a HDD to use it with than I would set it to about 2% and it will just remove old restore points when it needs to to stay under the 2%.
Also it is a good idea to create a restore point before you make any major changes.
I use to be like you and always disable restore but but a bad driver update caused me to have to run Windows recovery so I now keep it enabled and every week or so when everything is running smooth I create a new restore point.
