This laptop confuses me. I bought an Asus laptop about a year ago and these are the specs:

CPU - Intel i5 - 7200U @2.5 GHz
RAM - 8192 MB
Intergrated Graphics - Intel HD graphics 620
Dedicated - Nvidia GeForce 940MX

I only really play league of legends on my laptop. When I choose to run it with intergrated graphics, there are no issues, no fps drops and will run at 60 fps at medium settings no issue.

However, when I choose to run it with the "High performace Nvidia Graphics Processor" I can't run the game even on the lowest settings... the game will run at 60 fps for 2 minutes and then drop all the way to 5 fps for about 30 seconds and then go back to normal in this endless cycle that makes me tear a ball out.

Why does this happen? I thought the nvidia processor was designed to work better for gaming. Im a complete noob at computers so i dont know a lot. In the settings it says the Nvidia Geforce 940MX is "Render Only Display Device". Not sure if that is worth mentioning or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Double check all of your drivers. Sounds like the 940 software is wigging out. If that doesn't work, try intentionally disabling the card, restarting the computer, then enable it and try again.

Has this always been an issue, or has it been a recent issue? How long have you owned the computer?
