Hello. I would like to ask for help in choosing a video card, now I have a 2080 Ti, but I have to return it. Budget $1000+ -
The PC will mainly be used for gaming, of course I would like to have a margin of 3+ years for gaming in 2K on Ultra
I'm thinking about 4070 Ti, looked at tests, reviews - it seems like a good option (but I don't know much myself) so I want to ask your advice.

Specs:

Core i7-10700KF 3.8GHz
Cooler Noctua NH-D15
BE QUIET! Straight Power 11 750W 80+ Gold
Mainboard MSI Z490-A PRO
SSD M.2 2280 500GB Samsung
SSD SAMSUNG 860 EVO 1TB 2.5" SATA
HYPERX Predator DDR4 3333MHz 32GB Kit 2x16GB
Case BE QUIET! Pure Base 500DX

Monitor MSI Optix G27CQ4 165Hz

Thanks in advance for your replies.

If that's what you 're going for, then you should aim for RTX 4090.

Remember: Nvidia's new generation GPUs, won't be released before 2025, so, up until then, you'll be at the top of your game, if you opt for it.

Trust me: i've been the unfortunate owner of a 4070 Ti, for approximately 5 months.

Nothing but an overpriced mediocrity, to say the least.

At 1080p, its meagre 12 GBs of VRAM are insufficient even for games like Resident Evil 4 remake and Far Cry 6. Literally, you'll get CTDs if you try to raise the settings at max.

Got fed up and replaced it with a 4090. It's a beast of a card and my only regret is i didn't buy it right fron the start.

But you can avoid doing the same mistake.

So, if you really want your rig to last in the long term, there is only one option for you.

I know it looks like an expensive choice, but, if you already have 1,000$+, try and be a little more patient, until you raise some more cash, for the 4090.

You might have to wait a bit more, 'cause you'll have to change your PSU in the process, but i can guarantee that this card will make it worth for both your time and money.

Performance wise, 4090 is a huge leap, giving as much as 80% up, compared to its previous generation counterpart (3090).

Just take a look at the benchmarks posted by a fellow forum member, who happened to own both cards, and you'll see what i'm talking about:

4070 Ti, is a bad choice, and, if you value your money, you won't rush into it.

Sorry for the long post.

4090 just for 10700K?
No,just no.
not even 10900KS would be suffient for maximizing its potential.
He would need preferably 13900K with motherboard that can properly handle that power hungry monstrosity.
VERY high end cooling for a CPU.
Not sure how best of AM5 do against 13900K,
And very high end power suppy of minimum 1200W.

All in all well over 2000$ investment.
2500 - 2700 or so in fact ... .
Edit:
IF he is lucky.
I am not sure if ideal MOBOs for 13900K are in 500$+ area or there are some for around 200-250 that can handle it to maximum.
DDR5 version naturally.
So probably much closer to 3000$.

Also 4090 is a 4K or so card.
For 2K(1440p)it is a waste of money.

Now if you said 4080 that would be more reasonable.
Then he could get away with 1800-2000 overal investment.
Maybe.

I hear ya, but, to my understanding, his budget is only intended for a GPU upgrade.

Don't forget: his rig, is already 3 years old.

If he's to make any sort of substantial difference through an upgrade like that, then it should be the best upgrade possible.

And which card, other than 4090, can guarantee that?

And very high end power suppy of minimum 1200W.

Well, that depends on the 4090 he chooses, i suppose.

He can easily find a version (even OC) that requires a minimum of 850W and a recommended of 1000W.

Also 4090 is a 4K or so card.

Now if you said 4080 that would be more reasonable.

But he's looking to make it through these next 3+ years.

Which practically means that the release of Unreal Engine 5 games should also be taken into consideration.

And there already is a number of games that can bend a 4090 to its knees.

So, 4070 Ti or 4080, are not gonna cut it.

He needs the premium.

DO NOT GET A 4070 Ti!!!! The 12 GB of VRAM buffer is currently the minimum amount needed to play the most recent AAA games at 1080P ultra, in 2 years you will be turning textures and other settings down to low. If you want an easy rule of thumb, look at the current generation of consoles for sale at the time of GPU purchase and if the GPU you are looking at has less VRAM than the consoles…steer clear!!! I’d recommend 4080, or 7900XT at minimum right now, if you can wait and those are too expensive then I’d recommend the 7800XT that is due out any time now. Trust me, you will regret the 4070 Ti, sure it’s got a powerful engine, but the lack of adequate VRAM is like trying to drag race a Corvette with Prius tires. A whole lot of going no where lol

I’m sorry but you worry too much about CPU’s, unless he is playing comp shooters, he will never see or care about that extra <=15% FPS (source: Intel) boost going from a 10th gen to a 12th gen Intel CPU when the same amount of money spent will get him 80% more frames (4070 Ti vs 4090). Sure, maybe 99th percentile is choppy but again, if not playing CS:GO, etc. he won’t notice or care.

And there are many more games out there that are GPU limited vs CPU limited so even 99th percentile deficits will be hard to come by with a 10th gen.

He needs the premium.
It not what he needs as much as what he can afford.
If you re-read what he wrote he did not say that he is simply upgrading to something significantly better.
No,he needs to return his 2080Ti.
Return,as if someone landed it to him I imagine.
Regardless whatever your feelings about 4070Ti,it would be a MASSIVE upgrade over 2080Ti.
Not much more VRAM,but faster Vram with vastly superior architecture and DLSS3.
It's not that 12GB is a problem, it's just that you are too demanding.
As important as Vram is,it isn't holy grail of performance.
Playstation 5 has access to 12GB of 16 total regarding games and Xbox Series X to just 10 out of 16.
4070Ti obliterates both consoles, even without DLSS.
Saying 4080 wouldn't cut it,tells me I shouldn't discuss this with you.

12700K minimum for 4090 in my opinion.

Anyways, I am sure he will do the right thing and find something that he can financially handle.
