Please help

Ok, so I just built a new rig with a asusm4a79xtd evo motherboard. When I boot it up I get a long beep proceeded by three short beeps (which I know means no vga detected), a pause, and then a single beep (which I am assuming means it just takes a second for the graphics card to boot but I'm not sure). I am running a xfx radeon 5770 with the system. The problem is I cant get the bios screen to appear. I am currently trying it on an old CRT monitor via a VGA to dvi adapter so I thought that might be the problem. Any input is appreciated, thanks

Most HD 5770's have a 4-pin PCIe and it's easy to forget. Plus I assume you didn't overlook the 4-pin CPU and 24-pin main. --- just check'n.

The CRT has nothing to do with this unless it's damaged {i.e. shorted cable}.

Nope, no over clock. This happened after all components were installed new. And this particular card has no 4 pin pcie.

Hmm... I said overlook {missed} not OC.

Next, rule-out a short. {Lazy-man's Breadboard} Unscrew all of the MOBO and PCIe screws, get a towel for support and dangle the MOBO free from the case or any conductive surfaces. Pull all but 1 stick of RAM, and disconnect ALL USB devices including Keyboard & Mouse -- yes you'll need to use the Power button to force a shut-down. Try to start.

BTW - What exact Mfg & Model HD 5770?

edit: I assume the HD 5770 is properly seated, suggest you reinstall and firmly seat again.
