Please power down and connect the pcie power cables 1070 ti

Recently bought a 1070 ti tried plugging it in and it says please power down and connect the pcie cables when I plug in the 6+2 it’s a black screen. The ti has a 6 pin and 8 pin plugs does that mean I need to use both? I have a Corsair cx500 power supply and it has 6+2 pin cable

Yes. You are required to connect both the 6-pin and the 6+2-pin PCIE power connectors. If your power supply doesn't have two PCIE power connectors, it wasn't designed to handle this strong of a graphics card.
