Hi there guys,
I just spent a rather large amount of money on PC upgrades on Black Friday and whilst I am 100% confident I got great value on the specials I chose I would now like to know just how good this PC is and where I may have made a purchasing mistake as although I know a fair amount about hardware and PCs, in general, I am certainly no expert.
I am particularly interested in my MOBO and its synergy with the other parts, I have read many good things about it. I am also curious about running 1 RAM chip in this build as I am currently doing. The Black Friday specials only allowed people to buy 1 of each item to prevent those stupidly rich people from taking advantage. (They should have made this limit to 2 for certain items such as RAM but they didnt) So I only have the 1 chip in at the moment, albeit, its a rather good chip.
Some context: I use the PC strictly for gaming. I play a variety of games but I spend most my time in CS:GO, Hearthstone, WoW and the resource-intensive PUBG.
A few months back I decided to start playing PUBG but my PC was around 5 years old and I had to settle for 20-30 FPS which was pretty unbearable (still had a K/D of 0.8 somehow 😀). I decided to buy a new GPU and an SSD as I assumed these would make the biggest impact for lowest cost. My frames were improved to 40-60 FPS making the game entirely playable and I was rather happy with my purchase. Now I've gone and spent a rather large amount on almost everything else. I am going to paste the specs directly from the invoices in order to provide all the features etc of my hardware. My PC is as follows:
MOBO
Asus Prime X470-Pro Ryzen Motherboard / AMD X470 Chipset / AM4 Socket For Ryzen Processors / Dual channel memory architecture / Intel I211AT Gigabit LAN / Realtek S1220A 8-Channel High Definition Audio / 5 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Ports [Blue, Type-A] / 1 x USB 3.1 Port [Type-C] / 2 x USB 3.1 Gen2 ports [teal blue, Type-A] / 5 x Audio Jacks / Fan Xpert 4
CPU
AMD RYZEN 5 1600X Processor / AMD Wraith MAX RGB CPU Cooler / 6x Core - 12x Threads / 19MB Cache / 4.0GHz+ Turbo / AM4 Chipset / 95W TDP / XFR (extended frequency range) Enabled / YD160XBCAEWOF
RAM
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB 16GB (1 x 16GB) 3000MHz DDR4 Gaming Memory / BLT16G4D30BET4K / 1.2V / PC4-21300 / Limited lifetime warranty
GPU
Gigabyte Radeon RX 580 Gaming 8GB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
SSD
Kingston A400 2.5" 240GB SSD SATA 3 2.5" Solid State Drive / Read Upto 500MB/s / Write Upto 450MB/s
HDD
Did not upgrade this. 2TB Samsung internal HDD about 4-5 years old. Not sure on specs here.
PSU
I did not upgrade my PSU. I have a rather old Thermaltake 500W PSU that does the job fine for the moment but it was definitely not designed for new age RGB builds and fancy cases as I had to add an extender to my CPU power cable in order for it to reach the top of my MOBO from its position at the bottom of my case.
Peripherals
NZXT S340 Special Edition Mid Tower Gaming Case / CA-S340MB-GB
MSI Interceptor DS B1 Optical Gaming Mouse
MSI Interceptor DS4200 Gaming Keyboard
MSI Shield Gaming Mousepad
Samsung 24" LCD Monitor - Also not upgraded and is over 4 years old. Will have a standard 60Hz refresh rate and is 1920x1080P.
I am now getting around 120-170 FPS on PUBG with most settings on very low but about 4 on medium/very high. This fluctuates a lot depending on the map and a variety of other factors and I am extremely happy with this.
I am getting about 240 FPS on CS:GO with all settings on high. Please provide me with any more tips on what I could of or should of done and what I should look at next.
Thanks!
