Hello

Please suggest a cheap motherboard for Pentium G3258. I saw a motherboard Biostar H81MLV3 Ver. 7.x. Is this a good motherboard for overclocking g3258? Also i have a doubt , in their website they have mentioned as Dual DDR3-1600. So i cannot use 2133mhz or 1800mhz ram on this motherboard?

i wouldn't risk buying a non-Z board if you fully intend on overclocking that cpu from the get-go. eventually intel may release microcode that prevents non-Z boards from OC'ing, and most/all board vendors make a disclaimer on this anyways.

I just bought the ASRock B86M-ITX board recently and was able to OC out of the box with it. I bought it primarily because it was cheap, had USB 3 support, decent audio, and was purported to OC the G3258 with a BIOS update. Much to my delight it OC'd without the need of a BIOS update.

My CPU is stable at 4.2ghz, 1.28V on the stock cooler and even at 100% load never reach above 62 degrees.

Hope that's helpful.

I bought a z87 sniper g1 from ebay for 70 bucks and i see alot of z87 and z97 platforms sell used for around 70 all the time on ebay and that is delivered. z boards are much nicer on vdrop and have better vrm with most of the boards having 8 phase power delivery or better. If you buy on ebay simply ask the buyer to provide a well lit close up of the socket to ensure there are no bent pins.

It doesn't matter if the mboard only goes up to 1600 because the G3258 itself can't go above 1400.

Also, many non-Z boards can OC just fine. Asus, ASRock, and MSI all have boards that allow it. The MSI H81M-E34 is actually a nice one for low-budget tweaking.
