Hi guys!

I'm in a desperate situation right now 🙁 couple of days ago i upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. it went well. after that I thought to perform a clean install since I can use my genuine windows 7 key for windows 10 activation. there after during a restart, I change the boot order and exit the BIOS! BOOM!!! machine power went off suddenly. And it restarts again. But this time it didn't boot. My Plextor M6S SSD is not showing in the boot menu!!!

Neither hard disk boot priorities. So I just restart again. same result! then I cleared mobo CMOS by shorting the jumper pins. ( at least i thought so ) and restart again.... Then I could see my SSD on boot menu. but when it try to boot from it it didn't go through. some times Stuck at A2 for a long time and then it's missing again from BIOS. Then I did the same thing again and this time removed the mobo battery for more than half an hr, And start the system again. same result.

I tried with SATA cable changes, port changes, start the system with only SSD plugd in to mbo,(msi Z97 gaming 5) and with only one ram. And updated my BIOS with flash drive. no luck there as well.some times it appears but it never went trough and boot.

I'm pretty much out of option here. could you guys help me on this please!!!!. It will be huuuuuuuge help!!

Thanks in advance!

Dayantha.

Solution
Hi guys!!

Thank you for your help!! my issue got fixed by it it self i guess :0.

After tackling with this problem long time. I kind a decided to give up and, ( in that moment I was actually saying to my PC , and praying " I didn't do anything but change the boot order please so don't so this to me " LOL)

And just rest the bios for default, make sure secure boot is disabled,(by default) and restart the PC!!

Boom it booted in like 2 sec, I was like so surprised, any how I tried everything, read all the articles, I didn't know what was UEFI, or GPT, or secure boot etc, cause this was first time in 8 years I'm doing all by myself, so I learned a lot form this experience, some times I haven't slept for like 48 hrs straight, more than...
Hey there, agisslayer.

I'd suggest you find a different computer with which to try the SSD in question. You've already tried different ports and cables on yours and still have the same issue. Even after updating your BIOS still nothing. So if you can get another computer to recognize your drive, go ahead and run the tests from an SSD diagnostic tool, to see what's the situation. You should also check the SSD manufacturer's website for an available firmware update for this drive model.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Hey Boogieman_WD,

Thank you for your fast reply on this matter. Thanks man I appreciate it!. Yeah I've used my Sis desktop for testing. Its an old foxconn mars board with SATA II ports. It showed in BIOS there but I couldn't find it in Disk management.

But i'm gonna try one more time with ACII mode and IDE just for sake of it :) I'll let you know what happens :)

Huge thanks again man!

Dayantha

@Boogieman_WD,

NO luck with those testing as well mate!. Just don't know what to do now. It's 5.13 am in the morning still haven't slept. 🙁
Any thoughts on this?.. thanks in advance!

Sorry for not being able to respond sooner. Well if you still haven't tried a diagnostic tool, go ahead and do it, although it might be a long shot if the SSD is not recognized by Windows. Try the firmware update suggestion.

Basically it does sound like the drive is the one with the issues, having in mind it acts weird with both computers. It might be best if you get in touch with the SSD manufacturer's customer support, to see if the guys there can come up with a solution, or if you can RMA it if it's still under warranty.

Ah it's okay mate! better lilbit later than never eh ? I'm pretty sure this is a lilte mess up with UEFI . Yeah your are right I have to get in touch with the Plextor guys. yeah Still its under warranty, But I have to send it all the way to Bangkok thailand. I work there I just came back here for my annual leave. but since I'm working in gaming industry there is alwasy smthing goes wrong some where :) so I kind a have to work., so i'm out of time that's why I wanted to get this fix ASAP. back in the day I was a hardware geek, since we have "IT" guys we kind a got used to call them up even our WiFi is not working, in my case he'd my best mate. I better listen to him next time :)

thank you for your kind advice's. Thanks mate hope it helps in my case. even if it doesn't you are a caring person. I wish if anything good you wish may come true. best of luck mate!

Thanks! umm although could you please give me some thoughts about these suggestions in these forms bellow.

Boom it booted in like 2 sec, I was like so surprised, any how I tried everything, read all the articles, I didn't know what was UEFI, or GPT, or secure boot etc, cause this was first time in 8 years I'm doing all by myself, so I learned a lot form this experience, some times I haven't slept for like 48 hrs straight, more than than that actually, And now i'm looking at some articles and tutorials about 4K alignment of a SSD and how to increase it life span,

So all and all my conclusion is as always in every dilemma we face, never give up just give everything that you got, even if your problem is not solved by then, which means you missed smthing, do it again. But there is a point we have to get on with our life and you know go back to our day today work, but if your PC is part of your work then you have to get it fixed some how :) but my point is just give all you got for any problem you face, and I can guarantee, 99.9% times you would get your reward. that 0.1 is kind a undefined or luck or smthing 😀.

So yeah in this case, I've done, all of the mentioned things above on my post, strong advice is, if you happen to face this kind a problem with your SSD, don't worry, 99.9% times its NOT your SSD, ( I mean it's not dead or malfunction ) It's do with your BIOS and the way your system identifies the changes you've made, so first thing first

1) Rest your bios, do it properly, first do it with your system BIOS/UEFI, and make sure tho save and exit. Its not like hit F10 and type "Y" and enter, like good old days, you have to read whats in front of your scrn. If it dint work, clear CMOS, Jumper thing we used to back in the days, or short your reset BIOS jumper pins with a screw drive or smthing. take out the battery for like 10 mins and put it back. I'm pretty sure in this moment your SSD will show up before going in to BIOS screen. BUT remember, all of the times its not resetting your BIOS smtimes it wont work as we expect. so beware!

2) When you install windows make sure your SSD is the only drive is plugged in to mobo, ( thats one of the mistakes I've done) and follow the instruction on this thread. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

3) Also read these,

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/533596/ssd-issues-in-bios/

4) keep trying rebooting. even if it takes 100 times, with out HHD's of course,

5)Make sure SSD is pluged into SATA port 0 or 1

6) Try your SSD with another PC, try it with a Mac or Ubuntu. If it's not recognize at this point lot's of ppl would say " you should take it to place you brought it and try to get a replacement". but just hold on for a bit and repeat all the all of the things that you've done one more time. As I said in the beginning, 99.9% times it's not your SSD.

I'm sure after all this you'd be able to fix your problem, one last thing, even if it's not working at this point just leave your PC for one day and start it again after one day or so, with default settings of your mobo, and boot fro your UEFI bootable usb stick or DVD, and once it comes to windows installation window just hit Shift+F10 and follow the steps bellow,

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:
Note:- ( keep in mind when you do this sometimes it will take long time but dont quit just let these cmds execute)
DISKPART
LIST DISK( will take long time sometimes)
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 10 target HD #, same here will take some long time)
CLEAN( in my case went so fast although it didn't do anything( cause it didn't erase anything my ssd for some reason im glad it didn't)
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY (took long time in my case and prompt a error msg. in this point i actually thought it was over, but it didn't )
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 10"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

And install win 10.

I simply had to quit the set up two times or so. suddenly in a one boot it worked. it didn't erase anything. luckily for me I guess :)

And finally be optimistic even though you feel it's all over. cause It's never all over until you do everything you can :)

Hopefully this might help anyone having this problem, And please participate on these kind a forms and try to help ppl any way you can. cause one of your experience or advice might help at least one person who's facing the same issue.

we always come to these forms and lots of other's but after our problem is fixed normally we are lazy to at least say "it worked and thanks" I've done that and I feel so guilty of not doing that. But now I've decided to give at lest one day just 10 mins of my time to help other ppl having some trouble with PC's or anything rather :) it just 10 mins man! it could give someones a smile and relief !!

Lastly it will make you happy and trust me, you find lots of help when you need next time, cause what goes around comes around eh ? :) this is not the last time we all get in to some trouble so :).......

Thank you for all the good ppl who helps me!!!

Cheers!!

Dayantha.

Wow, that quite the research you did there. You are awesome mate. I don't know how I've missed the notification from your last reply, but I guess in a way this was even better. Learning by trial and error definitely will be more beneficial for you in the long run. I'm selecting your answer as the solution, hopefully someone having the same issues will read it.

Great job! 😀

Hey Mate!

So sorry for not replying you soon enough mate. I simply forgot to log in to this forum. Yeah thanks for choosing this as the answer. Well I truly meant what i said at the end of the msg. It was a great thing to see lots of ppl trying to help others. Man i wish in day today life, in the streets, ppl are acting like this. world will be a much better place than this.

Quite honestly, think about this, when you download pirate torrent you don't feel like you are "stealing" like when you imagine of a real breaking in to a store and steal something. It's kind a strange that bipolar behavior of our minds. But the beauty of being KIND & HELPING people even with just a one sentence in a forum like this, would give anyone that same HAPPINESS or JOY, when they do a kind act in real world. So I guess we as humans, has a built in "KINDNESS" But as we grew older and dealing with the society, our priorities changes so are our good qualities. Thus we will loose the grip of that built in kindness.
Anyhow I'll make a reminder right now, then I won't forget to log on at least once a week :)

Cheers mate!!!
