Plugged in hdmi cable and now i can only see part of my laptop screen on my tv

I just bought a hdmi cable and right away i hooked it from my hp laptop to my LG hdtv , then menu pop up and i clicked on something i can now only see my destop background . how do i change the settings or reset it so i get that menu again ? thanks Natalie

You might have set it to "Extend Desktop" mode. Does your laptop's screen go off? Or does it show the main desktop with the icons and all? If you want it to display only to the TV, you should select "Projector only" or "External display only" mode.
