Hi. I have an Asus P8Z77-V. Yesterday, I tried to plug in a USB hub to one of the USB 2.0 ports on my motherboard and as soon as it made contact in the port, the system powered off. Now, when I press the power button absolutely nothing happens. The green power light on the board is lit, indicating that it is receiving power from the psu, but that is the only sign of life I'm getting from the board. What should I do?

Suggest trying the PSU fan trick to see if your PSU is working properly. Also, I would try using the minimal amount of hardware (cpu, mobo, 1 stick of ram) just to see if you can get it to do anything. If it works from there, you can start adding pieces and determine what's still working and where the problem child is-- and if its fixable.

Did you unplug the USB hub yet? I know cheap USB hubs that have caused problems like this because they had a dead short. Removing the hub allows the system to operate again.

If you have done this already, I don't mean to be condescending, but some people don't think of that step. It very well could be that the hub killed the board. A dead short from the USB power into a signal lead could fry the chipset and render the board permanently useless.

Yes, I removed the hub as soon as I realized something was wrong.

I tested the PSU, it is completely fine. As for the mobo, it still has no response when I press either the power or reset button. I tried with my normal setup and the minimal amount of hardware. The only response I have is when the psu is on, the green SB_PWR led is on.

I already did, ordered the replacement and it should be here tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
