Hello there, sorry if this question has been asked before, I got this card like 3 weeks ago and Im very concerned about thermals, every YT video, review, etc... that I have read states that normal temps under load are about 60s but my GPU is way hotter than that.

First, this is my rig:
5800x3D, RTX 4080 de PNY (this model), 16x2GB RAM, MSI x570 A-Pro, Noctua NH-D15, Bitfenix Formula 650w, and a Corsair 4000D Airflow case with 3 intake and 3 exhaust fans.

I recently discovered that my thermals after a while playing Baldur's Gate 3 are 72c on the core and 90c on the hotspot, Im not concerned about core temp but hotspot temp, is not a little bit high? I bought this very basic model because I have read that heatsink on this GPUs are oversized so even the basic models are way cooler than previous generation. We are on winter, so my ambient temperature is 19c or so, I don't even want to think how the temps will rise on summer...

Here is a pic of HWInfo after 30 minutes of playing BG3 (note: it is everything on default, no undervolt or custom fan curve):

If I apply some undervolt (2700mhz at 950mv and +1000 on memory) and a custom fan curve then thermals goes down until 64c core and 80c hotspot. I already had a previous undervolt settings that seemed stable 3 weeks ago (2600mhz at 935mv +1000 memory and several Port Royale and Time Spy tests and many games) but suddenly its not stable anymore so I rise to 950mv.

The question is, I can still return the GPU with no problem. Would you return it? I am thinking on getting a 7800XT or 7900XT (don't want to spend what I spent on the 4080).

What do you think? Any answer would be appreciated. Thanks!

Going to vary between other builds regardless. That difference can easily be due to the climate you live in, fans(selection, position) and your personal fan curves.
OH - can't forget case ambient temperature.

Nay, not at all. A gap of 18C is good, and the hot spot has a range up to 110C.

Eh? Do you not have AC/heating in the home?

Would I return it? Heck no, I'm keeping it! There's not a darn thing wrong here.

Ho, thanks for your answer. I dont use any AC/heating at home, my ambient temp is between 15-19c, I live on a warmer place.

So, do you think my thermals are good then? Nothing to worry about? No degradation?

The card seems to be working properly. Have you looked at you case fans and positions for airflow? Can you add more ? Is the hot air coming out of the card being properly removed from the case or getting recirculated and fed back to the card? Or hot air from CPU cooler? How's the CPU temperatures - if high then maybe it's your case ventilation.

Yep.
No.
Not even close.

You can donate the card to me if you'd like...
Thanks! then I will keep it... haha

My case is very cooler, 3fans intaek, 3 exhaust, CPU is always 28c at idle adn 55c full load, besides, it's right in fron of my window os is always getting air fresh. Even so, is GPU temps still ok? My only concern is how bad will it be when summer comes.

If you're not comfortable with the temps, it's best to return it for another model or brand. Playing around with it might make it worse, or even brick it. Research the thermals of different brands and models, because they can vary wildly from one boardmaker to the next, and even within the same brand family.
