No, no...I really dislike scoring systems.
You simply can't explain why a game is good, or not, or inbetween with a
number. It can't be done.

They work if the game's on sale, and you just want a quick glance to see if
it's worth buying or not...but if you really want to know whether a game is
going to interest you, well, IMHO you clearly need a review - and reviews
don't have to be overly long.

Yeah, there 's a lot more traffic in there than I had anticipated.
I shall repost forthwith (ie later this afternoon just gone 2:00pm
now)

Don't worry, there's a .jpg there as well.
I only posted the .psp in case you had an application that handles
layers. It makes the graphic easier to customise for your own
purposes. If you have something else, let me know what layer formats
you CAN handle (Photoshop?) and I'll convert and repost.

The graphic is posted in the public domain. I don't need copyright on
that one and so I haven't put my logo on.

>Your use of different nicks is so confusing! Poor widdle I....so, uhm....who

No. I'm keeping my religious persona separate from my gaming and
erotica persona.

*I* have no problem reconciling the various aspects of the real me,
but I don't intend to confuse people who cannot and thereby colour
their perceptions of me. This seems to be very important in dealing
with the various religious fundamentalists I encounter from time to
time. (You know the sort- there's lots of them in the Hills District
of Sydney, in the Asian Christian communities and especially in the
USA)

Aha! I have been told it translates (almost) as "Bright Field
[Miowarra] Friend to Cats [Tomokatsu]". In shortened form, I prefer to
be called Tomo - which also has that essential Aussie ring to it and
translates directly as "friend" which is cool with me..

Getting Off Topic Here
I have no Japanese language myself, but a great and abiding interest
in the culture. My late father was a survivor of Changi POW camp and
when I was a kid, I needed to find out how the ability to treat people
in such a way came about.

Well, I DID find out and I reckon the cause isn't something inherent
in the Japanese culture as all the propaganda told us, but instead
it's an attitude inherent in Fascism. The Japanese Fascist militarists
had held enough power from the late '10s to enable them to
indoctrinate the upcoming generations who actually fought in China and
the Pacific.

The majority of survivors of J Force have said that the Japanese
civilian population they encountered while there, were as
compassionate and caring as anybody could wish.

I have Syberia I too...and it also keeps freezing. I've applied all the

Yes, it makes sense.

Nonetheless, if I do post over there, I'm sure you'll notice me and answer

Personally, I don't mind....I mean, 'dragoncarer'! lol 😛.....back when I
used to do chat rooms I would occasionally enter a Christian chat room (this
was before I'd read and agreed with Nietzsche) just to talk about
spirituality and theology in general and some wacko would leap on me before
I'd even said anything...based entirely on my handle!

To a degree, I think this is like anything in terms of war and
individuality. It could be said that the anti-Japanese sentiments of that
period were indoctrination as much as Japanese fascist/millitary
was...Anyway that's enough of this near-edge topic, I've nominated this part

I think that would be fear and "lynch mob" reasoning 🙁 Seems that
pretty much anybody that looked Japanese was rounded up and taken to
holding camps for the duration of WWII. I used to think how Nazi like
that was. But after reading a few personal accounts of various people
from the period, I came to realize just how powerful and extreme a
factor this "lynch mob" mentality can be. I am wondering now if because
of the fierce anti-Japanese sentiments of the populace here, the US Gov.
did this as much to protect these people from the mobs.

Given the circumstances; Humanity can be very bad to humanity. This
isn't confined to any one 'people'.

I think that there was also a great level of sympathy in the USA for
"strong man" solutions to political problems. Umm... what I'm sayng is
that the USA of the 20s and 30s was just as prone to the prevailing
world political fashion for Fascism as anywhere else and the (ahem!)
"shock and awe" of the attack on Pearl Harbour sparked off a largely
fascist and racist response in the isolationist population which lead
to the over-reaction of the Nisei camps.

Your Silver Shirts never really got off the ground politically, but
the Deutsche-Amerika Bund was VERY strong and carried that racist
message quite strongly.

I think we saw a resurgance of that attitude after the attack on the
Twin Towers too.

Mob mentality can be absolutely frightening... that we are even
capable of it. If you're part of an angry mob, the guilt from
anything you do is transferred to the group. Something you normally
would never dream of doing on your own is suddenly well within
reason if you're in a mob. And you yourself would not feel like
*you* are responsible, it was the *group* that did it, despite the
fact that maybe no one else participated in that particular act
except you.

> Given the circumstances; Humanity can be very bad to humanity. This

Yep. I never cease to be amazed at our capacity for cruelty. And
not just to each other, we can be even worse to non-humans. We
like to think of ourselves as the hottest thing to grace this planet.
But actually, we've still got a long way to go. :/

You might laugh: "Lego Star Wars"! - This game really reminds me
very much of what I like about the TR games in general:

* There is *some* storyline.
* You can search for hidden secrets in each level;
although the levels are *very* short.
* Problems with the clumsy controls. ;-)
* Running and jumping around the levels with the Padmé Amidala
character with a blaster in her "hand" reminds me every time
of our favourite heroine with her pair of uzis.

On the other hand, there are no real puzzles in "Lego Star Wars"
(just like in TR AOD), and it is *very* short,
but was also cheaper than the average TR game.

BTW: Has anyone of you played "Legend of Kain"?
What are the controls like?

World Of Warcraft is my (current) big timewaster. Got my green-haired
girls on Cenarion Circle up to the mid-40 level (druid and rogue).
Running a few Horde chars on Scarlet Crusade. Even rolling up a mage
char now - shows you how hooked I am when I start playing casters in
RPGs...

Also playing some HL2 mods (having run through the main game three times
now): the strider mod - which allows you to run around in most of the
game's vehicles - and the CTF mod. Not much room for anything else
apart from the odd blip of Rome TW (1 year at a time, takes about 20min
tops) and I even looked at UT2K4 briefly for about 15min online before
getting bored and jumping back to the WoW.

Have tried the demo for Pariah, and it failed to impress: yet another
eye-candy linear FPS with weak 'flip-that-switch' puzzles to provide the
challenge. Best news I've read on the gaming front recently is that
Fallout3 is looking like a serious possibility...

Now, back to running my druid through Zul'Farrak for the blue (rare)
goodies that drop there...

Lisa if you've got an Xbox, have you tried Galleon. I loved it! I think
you can pick it up quite cheaply as it didn't appeal to the photorealism

I have had many many problems logging back into this group. I hope that I
have succeeded at long last. So I'm sorry for the last message which has
apparently been sitting in my outbox for months.

Hi anyway, to those of you who remember me!

Good to be seen!

I've been watching as much as possible but have only just been able to post
again after some time.

Am I right in thinking Tombraider Legend will be out Christmas time? UK as
well? It's looking good to me!

And if anyone has PS2, God of War is worth looking at. It has many of the
TR elements (not such great athletics) but a wonderful game of exploration
and combat and puzzles. It's on PS2 and not sure if it's on PC.

Great to be back!

Mary

noooooooooooooo.
Well, TRL has been put back to some indefinate time early next year,
according to crazy Eidos spokeswoman.
Meanwhile, God of WAR?!?!? It was as bad as Prince of Persia - kind of fun
to play, except when you just have to do things over and over and over and
over. Unebelievably grating. And it bastardised a whole bunch of Greek myths
and stories. *not happy*.

latest news say it was postponed, beginning of 2006. and that there's
gonna be playable version at the German Games Convention scheduled to
begin on August 17 in Leipzig (see e.g.
http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/headlines2343.html)

and as far as the subject goes:

just got a steering wheel for the PC! Playing Trackmania Sunrise
(amazing!) and Flatout (pretty good physics, ragdoll drivers fly through
the windshields, pretty much everything is destructible etc.)

also playing Psychonauts, has all the characteristics of a good game
but somehow it's not that interesting... didn't play it much yet, maybe
it's a good game after all.

NOT PLAYING: Juiced, in case you're thinking about getting this one,
read the reviews, the game is even worse than reviews say...

*yeech* I downloaded the demo, and, well *yeech*. Yeah...it seemed like
every other platform game ever. Although the last I played was Voodoo Vince
and *shudders* don't get me *shudders* started on that!

Oh well, I've clearly got different tastes from many of you. I enjoyed
Voodoo Vince and the Prince of Persia games.

I have to say though that there hasn't been that much that has really
grabbed my attention in the last few months.

I suspect the advent of next gen consoles is holding things up a bit,
although I note that the Shadow of the Colossus is due out and also a new
Zelda game (and for me another Prince of Persia *ducks down to miss the
brickbats*).

Off to do the weekly shop - curry for tea I think.
