Hi guys, I bought my Asus ROG Strix GL702VM-DB74 two years ago and have never really been blown away by its performance. I play mostly FPS games and especially lately have had such poor performance that many of the games are borderline unplayable.

Here are the specs:
- Intel Core i7-6700 2.6ghz
- GTX1060 6GB
- 16GB DDR4
- 256GB m2 sata III SSD
- 1TB HDD secondary

I’ve removed as much bloatware as I can find. nvidia drivers and windows are always up to date.

FPS Performance specifically for PUBG, Black Ops 4 and BFV is around 60-80 max but suffers horrendous stuttering whenever anything important is going on (fire fights, explosions, etc).

Is there anything that can be done or investigated or is it to be expected for a laptop? Any help is appreciated!

Solution
After months of searching I found the culprit: Intel Turbo Boost.

The way I understand it, the laptop has a feature which can boost CPU speeds up to 3.5Ghz if needed. The boost is triggered when your CPU hits 100% load. Ironically the turbo boost causes some issues (temp spike?) which translates into graphic stuttering and input lag when gaming.

To fix this I had to either throttle the CPU or disable the processor boost function in the Power/Battery settings. Instructions to do so can be found here: https://www.geeks3d.com/20170213/how-to-disable-intel-turbo-boost-technology-on-a-notebook/

Tried running Black Ops 4 and Battlefield V after applying the fix and both ran magnificently! :)
