I got an R9 Fury the day after launch with the intention of being able to max out basically every game at 1080p but I'm getting really poor performance in most games and I'm not sure why. Dying Light I average around 20 FPS on the Performance preset. Ark Survival I average around 40 FPS on the Medium preset with Epic render distance(actually improves FPS). And there are others where my performance is console grade or worse. I have the latest 15.7 drivers from AMD and I'm running the 3.19 kernel. In synthetic benchmarks like Unigine Heaven and Valley I get scores of 1187 and 2404 respectively while they were on the highest possible settings with Ultra quality 8xAA and in Heaven Extreme Tessellation so I don't think it's a driver issue but it may be. Can anyone offer any assistance?

Note: I'm pretty sure it's not a CPU bottleneck. I have an FX-9590 and according to my hardware monitor on my secondary display my GPU is generally pinned at around 100% use during play.

That's the biggest issue I have with Ubuntu. They have a damn appstore. Forget repos and a package management utility they have a bloody appstore. That's why I love mint. Cinnamon looks better, doesn't have the privacy issues that Unity has, Mint has Ubuntu ppa support among other things but it also lacks the damn appstore which is awesome. I don't want an appstore on my Linux installation thank you very much.

funny thing about mint [17] is I cant boot it with my windows drive hooked up ?? I now have to un hook one drive to boot to the outher . the 2 drives show in the bios just fine but not in the boot order at all like it all ways use to be. nor can I set a boot order with it ??? just one of the harddrives Linux or windows and the optical..

like start up hit I think F11 and pick what drive I want to boot from - cant do it ?? mint 15 did not have this issue and all worked fine -- I did see somr guys at the mint forum bring this up but got no answers ?? some hinted it maybe to do with mint 17 uefi ??

Gg Canonical. But yea. No appstores. I don't want an appstore. This isn't a phone.

well that's what you want ,right ?? that's what its all going to ? the consumer is all way right ? we listen to your needs and produce the things you want and need ..

lets face it . if these things were not what you want how can we feel we can sell them to you ??

all jokes aside the desktop pc is becoming a dinosaur and now takes a back seat to hand held

Yea but handhelds are still way too under-powered for people who really like to play demanding games.

a unified os for all devices is the goal .. one size fits all . sad part is the desktop guy pay's the price with things like windows 8 and 10 . its not going to get better

I think also its going to be a all live os that streams from a central cloud server - 10 is close and just like pc games today your required to accept all content from them or you don't use it

folks say ''well I turn that off'' as soon as that internet on its pinging away right under you nose, covertly . that's the ''with out limitations'' part of the eula you checked ''I AGREE'' to

Yea...I don't know how practical a cloud based solution for an OS is because that would require an internet connection but I get what you're saying and I'm not sure I like where PCs are going.

I thought I seen for like 10 a internet connection is required ?? its not a stand alone os so regardless you will be hooked up to get it going --

too much funny business in that - then I wonder with the forced updates if you were to keep it off line for too long it will force you to go online seeing you did agree to that deal ???

I'm sure they got there tricks lined up

One of the YouTubers I watch set up a system running 10 with no internet connection so I think it's possible.

I did not mean it had to be on full time but the moment you do its got ya . and to install it you have to connect to microsoft cause it not a standalone os as you got with 7 that's fully on a disk to load up and use

A Microsoft account and Internet access

I guess time will tell all on it once the trap is set and too late -- just too many head scratchers on that 10 for my liking

Yea :/. I don't like 10 either.

That is a really really good point. Why does it take so long? Wouldn't they just let everyone have it?

Yea seriously. I just don't trust MS or like the way MS and Apple both seem to be taking the PC. They're trying to treat it like an supped up phone and not as it's own thing. Adding appstores and integrated services and it's just stupid.

ya . well I don't know I poke around on your card and Linux and all I can see is hold out for better optimization ? I don't think its as bad as they let on

sad thing is phoronx is all you got to go by and he maybe over critical with amd stuff .?? I want a NVidia card but with the way it seems they try to hold them hostage on buying one its going to be some time on that for me .. evga knows what cards your wanting and seems to just dangle them like a carrot at the end of a stick in front of you -- I'm getting in need of something better to run and test or compare thing with here .. this old 7850 just not mainstream enough anymore ..

Yea that's why I upgraded but that upgrade seems to be in need of some serious driver updates.

Da Fuq...really? So this is saying my card actually has 4096 stream processors but 512 are disabled...

Believe me I won't be trying it. No way am I putting $550 on the line when my biggest performance issue is the Linux driver.

Yea...I wish I had that kinda money but honestly it doesn't really matter to me. 3584 processors is plenty for 1080p and honestly the extra 512 won't matter when the drivers are so shitty my card struggles to play games it should smash.

I don't get it as well. like this poor old 7850 to me and my needs does an ok job . I'm good with it for what it is stock out of the box .

so I figure if I had like you or say a gtx 980 at least . I mean should that just run all over what I'm use to ?? then you look at all the threads about ''my card low performance ''

lots of guy need to know the cards in reviews are hand select for max hype results to insure a good review for marketing ..

the card you see in a review may not be the same that you buy off the shelve

I think most of the guys that knew how to write drivers weather for Linux or windows done quite died or retired and the new generation of guys filling in them jobs aint the old pioneers from the good old days -

then just for windows , look at all the new games - new dx 12 - new cards - new win 10 - I bet they can hardly keep up with what it takes to keep a windows driver fresh and optimized . so Linux is not on any short list
