Poor Xfinity modem/router combo - Replacement suggestions?

I just moved into a shared residence.

The provider is xfinity and the router/modem is a Arris TG862 that's putting out only 3 bars to my bedroom only 30 feet away, granted there's some right turns and walls but this seems excessive. My roomates have no problems, but they do all their internet stuff in the common area where the router/modem is.

I'm using the wireless adapter that comes with the z-87 pro, I had no problems with it at my old place.

What options do I have to get a better signal? I can barely surf the net and can't play games online!

Many different ones.

There is no visible antennae on the box, so looks like a better antennae is not an option.
