Question Popping Sound & Burning Smell

Hello,

So it has been about a year since I turned on my old tower. Just plugged it in, and booted it up. During boot up a heard some crackling/popping sounds. I immediately turned it off opened up the tower and looked around. I smelled the faint scent of burning, but could not see anything wrong. Waited a few minutes tried, again. PC turns on just fine for now, and the are no more crazy sounds. Should I be concerned?

Burning smells are not a good sign, especially if that smell was burning electronics.
