I have a more or less old PC but last year I bought a more modern and better PC but I returned it because it did not improve its performance. You would have to do it with a continuous ping "-t" option. Leave those windows up while playing on your computer. If those ping times don't vary then it is not your network that is the problem, IMO.

VPN usually won't make internet faster, usually it makes internet slower because it adds encryption, unless the VPN can find a very good route.

The only type of vpn you can't really use behind nat is the older IPSEC. Almost all vpn you buy use either openvpn or wireguard. Both are designed to pass through nat. In addition they can actually pass through many firewalls, you can set them to use port 443 for example so it appears as HTTPS traffic.

You might have installed the vpn wrong. If you can surf the internet then the vpn works. Be sure to check that the IP you get from whatsmyip is different than the one you see when the vpn is not active.

Although a game company could block vpn usage...like netflix does...most allow it and some actually encourage the ones similar to wftfast or exitlag.

Would using Powershell's Test-NetConnection cmdlet be of any help here?
