Hi All,

So im trying to port forward on my router for my xbox one. I have contacted Microsoft but they are unsure on how to fix this issue.

I have followed instructions on how to setup a static IP address through either the xbox one itself or the router.

the ports Im trying to open are below, I have gone into my router settings and made these rules. I have also added screenshots so you can also confirm with me I have correctly opened the ports on the following IP Address : 192.168.0.7 Also there is a screenshot with port closed error.

When the IP was checking the port its checking the WAN and not the device IP is this normal? Also ive tried on other websites and used PFChecker tool which also was only testing my WAN IP. My last option is its not working because my WAN IP isnt static its dynamic, but in this case it should not matter, as my device as been setup with a static IP.

Port 88 (UDP)
Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
Port 80 (TCP)
Port 500 (UDP)
Port 3544 (UDP)
Port 4500 (UDP)

but when I go to check the ports are open on the device IP it says its closed. I dont understand why they are closed because ive done everything correctly in the youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMgc42jooNU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure any option in the router for upnp is enabled.

If your router has a hardware firewall, make sure the setting is set to medium or the low setting, and not high as the high setting can ignore any port forwarding rules you set up in the router.

I have not used an Xbox one, but if there are any kind of hardware firewalls built into the Lan configuration settings also set them to medium settings or low on the xbox one.

Other options a router may have are flood protection, disable the option of it exists in the router configuration.
And also turn off or disable Sip or Alg if the router has the option, it is used for Voip and can inter fear with port forwarding of ports in a router if set to enabled.

That should sort the problem out Daninozz.

If you have a static IP and have forwarded your ports correctly UPnP should be redundant unless you require other ports for other services not in your rules. UPnP can be flaky and is regarded as a trade off between ease of use vs security. There is no user interaction from programs to open ports to the internet, only you can decide if that trade off is worth it. All this being said NAT is just a pain in the ass which we have to live with do to the number of IPv4 addresses. To be honest in your situation for an Xbox I would just put it in a DMZ if your router has this function. (Just my opinion).

That option is enabled shaun but thank you for the suggestion.

the Xbox One doesnt have a built in firewall.

Not sure if the options for SIP or ALG are in the options of the router.

nigellivey I do have an option to setup a NAT -- DMZ Host but im not sure what this option does or what DMZ means? below ive added screenshot also to the left you can see the options I have to configure.

Port forward becomes redundant as all connections are allowed, I would however not recommend a personal computer etc as a DMZ host for security reasons but I'm not aware of any issues to date from having an Xbox exposed to the internet.

So you can delete out your pf rules if you wish, keep the static IP and put it in the box in the picture for the DMZ.

Dmz is just a setting for a set Ip of a client machine where the state of the Ip inputted
completely bypasses any rules or conditions set up in the router firewall settings.

Or any port restriction settings of the router are completely bypassed and ignored.

Basically it leaves any computer that uses the input IP address in the box open to any sort of attack from the internet.
From port flooding ect. or any Tcp or udp port scans where access to the system using the IP can be accessed like for example a remote access port used to connect to the client machine via the wan, internet.

For an Xbox one you could try using the DMZ option if you wish.
But I don`t recommend using it for a PC computer.
Unless you have a software firewall at least setup on the client machine also using the home network that is setup.
just like nigelivey also states.

If you still have problems, try setting all of the port addresses you input in your port forwarding section of the router to the Tcp/ Udp settings and test again.

This wouldnt work as the External IP Address is a dynamic IP. also the rules have only been configured for the device IP and not the external dynamic IP.

Tested your idea out my external IP for now is : 58.104.192.227

as you can see still says its closed.

You said "This wouldnt work" what have you done, who are you responding to?

I was replying to shaun.

Not sure but when I watched a youtube video on port forwarding, the guys External IP was the same as his private IP. My setup my External IP is dynamic and my private IP is static, to me this issue has to be with the ISP, I have correctly opened the ports in my router. I have come to the conclusion that something needs to be changed on my ISP side.

what do you guys think?

No, the fact you have a dynamic IP from your ISP isn't important, this information is carried in outgoing traffic.

Ah ok hmmm.. well then im lost as to what else the problem is? I thought maybe the port forwarding isnt possible but this youtube ( video below) video proves me wrong it can be done, but its like something is blocking the ports to open, even though they are now open in the router settings for the Xbox IP.

Im running off a couple of websites but the tool I actually use is called PF Checker tool it can be downloaded from http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm

Below I have a screenshot of what the tool looks like as well as me testing the port on the IP. its weird because this program is constantly checking the wrong IP to see if the ports are open, and you cant change the IP address. anyone know why its testing my external IP and not my static xbox IP?

these are the websites I use are

http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

http://www.canyouseeme.org/

http://ping.eu/port-chk/

http://portchecker.co/

I might be confusing myself here, did you say it was for the xbox?

lol your not confused at all nigel yes that is correct.

Ideally im trying to get my ports open for my xbox.

I can browse to the websites but sadly same result still says ports are closed.

Maybe I need to contact my ISP and see if they can open them from their end?

Can your ISP remote manage your router??? Did you try creating a DMZ host for the Xbox IP, then try the port checker website?

Yep sure did sadly didnt work :??:

As for the ISP being able to remote in not too sure, but I posted on Optus forums and they said we dont support port forwarding and our operators arent trained in this field thats not to say you cant do it yourself.

Also the fact I deciced to try the official Port forward tool and even that failed even though it was successful weird. screenshot provided.

I honestly believe its something to do with my IP something im missing...

Port forwarding is only required for external devices trying to reach a device inside your LAN, therefore only the external IP address is relevant when checking the port status using a port check tool.

The internal IP address is used only by your router to direct the port data to the appropriate device.

Port checking tools require a response from the device requiring forwarding. If the XBox is not on and using those ports, no response is sent and the port is listed as "closed".

Are you actually experiencing game play problems when using the XBox (moderate/strict NAT, unable to connect to other players, etc.)?

Yes sadly constantly kicked and was advised from ubisoft support team to open up the ports.

I just dont understand why its not working im doing everything exactly the same as the video im lost.

Are you sure you are using the correct WAN Interface on the Sagemcom?

The screenshot in your original post shows "ppp2.1", but the posted video has the user changing it to "eth4.3".
https://youtu.be/wMgc42jooNU?t=104

This appears to be a setting specific to this particular device, and may depend on your ISP, but you may want to try the "eth4.3" option if you haven't already.

edit: This change appeared to have worked for another user:

Thank you for the suggestion but sadly it didnt work BuddhaSkoota still says its closed 🙁 im soo confused even the port forward tool ( PFConfig) failed to open ports...

below is a screenshot of me changing the WAN interface to eth4.3 sadly still doesnt work 🙁

Ok so have some new news... I decided to try and port forward age of empires from the drop down list. and added my PC IP and clicked on reboot, when I did this for the first time ever I was prompt with a Authentication required message. screenshot below.

Unfortunately im unable to authenticate the router as none of the passwords ive tried work, ive tried the details below.
