This is my recent build below. The system I replaced was about 8 years old and in need of being upgraded, so I decided to get a high end graphics card & I guess didn't do enough research on the CPU & mobo as I think it is the bottleneck of this system. I've included the links to the score results so maybe we can figure out what's going on. I already uninstalled and reinstalled the GPU drivers as I was only getting 7k before a fresh install of those. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm seeing results in the 10k to almost 11k range on 3DMark.

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 980TI GAMING 6G LE
Mobo: ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0
CPU: AMD FX-8370
RAM: HyperX Fury Black Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) [32gb total]
PS: 850 Semi-Modular Corsair

Solution
look at this: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8093718 that is my score with a 970. So yes, I would stay that CPU is a major bottleneck. A while back some people claimed it did not bottleneck a R9 290x, but at the time I had a R9 280 that scored very close to their 290x's. Wasn't an isolated case either, it was 3 guys comparing scores and mine somehow equals a 290x in performance? Nah the 8370 is a bottleneck for benchmarking.

However depending on the game it may not make a difference unless the CPU is maxed out on the cores the game(s) are running on.

Solution

very likely bottlenecking.

you have a CPU designed for overclocking and a motherboard designed for overclocking. get yourself a top end cpu cooler and overclock the snot out of it. This should limit the impact of the cpu on your gpu scores. If you need assistance in overclocking that cpu let me know. i can direct you to some great resources and am willing to answer questions.
