Hi,
I like gaming. I do not have bad rig (below), but it ain't high end, despite I built it (not personaly) at the end of 2015. It was buck-wise good rig, to get me finaly away from then 10-ish years old old setup. Here is the actual rig :
MBD : Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P
CPU : AMD FX 4300
GPU : R9 380 OC, 2GB
RAM : 16 GB (4x4) HyperX Beast 1600 Mhz DDR3
PWR : Fortron FSP HYPER 600W
OS : W10 64bit
Currently I may be in position for relatively good sell of the oldest setup, and I also might have purchaser for anything from my "new" rig I would upgrade. That would give me some budget for upgrade, which I would boost to the final amount.
I do not want to switch MBD thus I am limited by AM3+ socket. Please take this as a rule 🙂 I have my own personal reasons for that. (Cause I would cancel the upgrade, wait 2-4 years and then rebuilt the rig from scratch)I was browsing through the offers on the net and I got myself possible candidates to get my hands on. Here it goes.
AMD FX 8350
AMD RX 480, 4 GB
32 GB (4x8) Corsair Vengeance 2400 Mhz CL11 DDR3
With CPU upgrade I would get maximum of my socket (without owning my own nuclear plant to run 9xxx), the GPU upgrade would move me into VR Ready category and the RAM... Indeed while my current rig won't make it on the cover of a magasine, it is capable of running new games (with some limitiations here and there, but no pain... yet) - so "stay with current rig" is also a valuable answer. Cause in doing so, I can wait 2-4 years and then rebuilt the rig from scratch.
But would I decide to follow suggested upgrades, I would probably skip the RAM. 16GB is just enough for gaming (no vid recording/streaming). For the rest though, I am both tempted and unsure of the worthiness. So here I ask.
First question... is it worthy? Please follow the rule of limiting myself into AM3+, I am well aware of i5/7 superiority. For that I do not need ask. Wouldn't be a RX 480 overkill? Wouldn't my MBD become a bottleneck? Would it my powersource make through? Or should I take the RAM?
Second question... could I somehow utilise the R9 380 in the upgraded rig? I mean... somehow run in company with RX 480? I heard some rumours about W10 allowing Crossfire of different card types. But wouldn't the combination get cloged on 2 GB VRAM of the older card?
Thanks for feedback.
