Running i5 4690k and gtx 970 8GB of ram. Battlefield ran beautiful on ultra 1080p constant 60 fps for the first few weeks after buying b stock evga SC+ edition 2977 version cooler. The problem seemed to start with the most recent driver update so now playing BF4 is awful, constant dips down to 30s and 40. Ran rivatuner while playing and gpu wont surpass 74 degress celcius, and cpu never above 65 C on stock intel cooler. Why the fps drops? BF4 seems to be the only game effected as all other games ive tried run same as usual. Tried going back to previous driver versions for GPU with no results. Tried turning settings to low with no difference in fps.

I think you'll remember me.

Anyway, I do not know. How cold are your ambients? It doesn't need to be very scientific, just get some sort of thermometer or sensor. That should give you a rough idea. Ideally, place it next to the front intake of your PC.

I would try to replace that stock cooler. You must have very cold room temperatures for the stock cooler to perform that adequately.

Could I see some pictures of inside the case just to verify if anything looks apparently wrong?

Edit: Operating System. What are you using? (I thought you mentioned Windows 10, but could be wrong.) What Nvidia driver version is it?

If all else fails, I would re download the drivers off of Nvidia's site (Geforce Experience does not have the option to...

Windows 10, driver version 355.82 ( latest) leaning toward fresh install of drivers. cant figure out how to bring in photo to reply though... add image then what? what image url does it mean? ambient was about 12 C

If the cpu isn't passing 65c, it's not throttling from temps. 65c while gaming on the stock cooler is pretty normal for the 4690k. It's not like amd's where 60-65c starts reaching the throttling point, that doesn't happen until closer to 100c on intel. Since you noticed the issue just since the driver update, it could be the driver update is causing an issue with that game. Maybe try rolling back the drivers to the previous version and see if it doesn't bring performance back to where it was. If this is while playing online, maybe try to play a different server if possible. Sometimes poor gameplay is a result of server issues and not on your end.

I wish it was just a server issue ive tried countless servers with only a few having problems but just with rubberbanding cause my ping wasn't great.
