My computer won't boot up if all my hard drives are connected to the SATA ports on the motherboard, it would power on but just stays on blackscreen and i can't even enter the BIOS.

I tried disconnecting all my hard drives from the SATA ports on the motherboard and when I do that I can enter the BIOS normally with no blackscreen.

I have tested all my hard drives on another desktop and they work fine.

Can a faulty SATA port be the reason for the blackscreen and not being able to access the BIOS?

What might have changed since all was well?
A sata port or cable is unlikely to fail due to old age.
A loose connection, perhaps.
It would help if you listed the make/model of your parts.
Include mobo, drives, psu...
was playing a game then suddenly it went blackscreen had to turn off the computer.

Tried to turn it back on and still blackscreen won't even display the motherboard logo where you had to press a key to go to bios.

Only way for it to display the logo and be able to enter bios is if there is no hard drive connected.

My board is MSI z87-GD65 GAMING. it shows error code 04 or D4 "not really sure if it was 0 or D" on it's builtin LCD error display.

Error codes for that board.

I would try each sata port as suggested above.

If I understand it right ports 1-6 are from the chip set and 7&8 are from a controller.

tried all ports and still get blackscreen and no board logo.
