There's some slight discoloration on my cpu, it's slightly darker than the rest of the golden surface but it's hard to see in the pictures; my computer will not boot up at all. The problem may not be my cpu, however.

My problem started when I completely misused a can of air; I shot out air that was too cold and it probably damaged at least one part of the computer, if not others. It booted up after I put it back together after the cleaning, but then shorted out and just turned off with no screen after 1 minute of being on. It has not turned on ever since.

We've tried a different PSU. We were going to try a new motherboard when we noticed the discoloration on the CPU. There was also some dust that had blow around into the sides of the cpu, as well a broken pin.

Main question - is the spot on the cpu bad? I know the pin would be the most obvious answer, but whatever damage I did with the compressed air couldn't be connected to the pin, and things were running perfectly fine before the compressed air incident.

So is my problem the CPU? Could I damage a new motherboard when using this CPU? What else could the problem be?

Thanks for any help.

I have seen that same discoloration on several of my new Intel processors. That means nothing. However, the damaged pin (in the socket?) is another matter. If the system ran OK before with the bad pin, chances are it was a redundant pin and not imperative that it be used. My first thought for your problem would be that you did some damage to the MB.
