I recently upgraded my motherboard and cpu and when I got everything hooked up, the red hdd indicator led on my front panel came on and there was a beep. My hard drive worked fine with the other mother board so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Any help is appreciated.

Hey there, ryankup!

I'd suggest you to try the drive on another computer and see if the beep will be present there as well. This is the best way to determine what is the source of this issue. Usually if a mechanical HDD is making any kind of weird noises it is an indication of an internal/physical fault. Go through the listed failure sounds here and see if yours is similar to any of them: http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php
The sound might be because of improper placement of the drive inside the case as well.
Either way, it's advisable to back up any data from the HDD just in case, since you suspect failure. I'd also recommend using your HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool to test the health and SMART status of the drive. I believe you should be able to find the utility on their website.

Keep us posted! Hope this was helpful! :)

Thanks for the help, I put the old motherboard back in and it boots up fine now. The sounds it made didn't come from the hard drive itself, I assume it was from within the case somewhere. I don't know why the other board would cause it to not boot, I tried multiple different sata data ports and multiple power cables and it didn't make a difference. The drive itself never makes any sounds or starts spinning up. When the computer boots up with the new motherboard, it shows my hard drive as connected, but when it asks what device I want to boot from and it doesn't show up there. Could this be a power issue or anything like that?

Hi again, ryankup!

It's totally possible that it is a motherboard issue or a power issue. However, if it was the PSU it would act up on your old motherboard as well. Thus I think you should contact your motherboard manufacturer's customer support for assistance. They should be able to provide you with further troubleshooting steps as well as a replacement product if yours is defective and still under warranty.

I'd also consider taking the computer to professional repair services and let the tech guys there test the whole system configuration and its components.

Good luck!
