So i bought a seagate barracuda 500gb HDD from best buy, and plugged it into my Dell Dimension 4700. The computer booted up fine once, i played some music, then i shut it down and turned it back on. Then, problems started. The screen went black and it started beeping. (beep code indicates memory issue) I restart it. then the computer BIOS detects memory errors during the post, when it does get past post it freezes or beeps again. No combination of memory sticks or slots pass in memtest86+. i power down and unplug the the sata cable, all sticks back in, and disable the sata port in BIOS. (otherwise computer complains about missing drive.) This time i make it to windows. then it resets and freezes displaying the video card info (via video card bios, first thing that appears when it turns on.) Then i unplug the power connector from the hdd, and the computer boots no problems. then i start memtest, and so far no errors (5 passes so far, errors were instant before) Before all this, the computer did freeze twice (bad ram beeps) in the two months since i got the new ram. at the time i chocked it up to dust on connections, but i think its the psu now. the pc was under heavy stress both times. Do you think its the psu?

Thanks,
Jack.

huh. this is weird. i plugged it back in and its fine. (powered off and on several times to be sure) Must have been overreacting to a loose cable...weird

Atljsf, I'll mark you as the solution because that was probably it.

I probably should get a new psu soon though, I'm definitely close to max draw...
